FORT WORTH, Texas - The first man to receive a full face transplant in the United States got hitched Saturday at a ceremony in Fort Worth, Texas.

Dallas Wiens, who received his face transplant in 2011, married Jamie Nash, another burn survivor he met at a support group. They exchanged vows in front of a congregation of over 150 people.

At the ceremony, Wiens told Nash, “I am blessed beyond measure that you have chosen me, and I love you with all of my heart.”

Nash responded, “You gave me hope, and you gave me tender love that I will always treasure.”

Wiens became the first person in the nation to become a full face transplant recipient after a November 2008 power line accident all but burned away his features and left him blind.

The accident happened while Wiens was working construction at the same Fort Worth church where he and Nash were married on Saturday.

Surgeons said the transplant was not able to restore his sight, and some nerves were so badly damaged from his injury that he will probably have only partial sensation on his left cheek and the left side of his forehead.

In 2010, Nash suffered near-fatal burns on 70 percent of her body when her car burst into flames after an accident.
