Police: Teens drugged parents to use Internet
ROCKLIN, Calif. (AP) - Police say two California teenagers used a prescription sleeping medication to spike the milkshakes of too-strict parents so they could log onto the Internet.
The parents called police and the 15-year-old Rocklin girl and a 16-year-old friend were taken to Juvenile Hall. Rocklin is 20 miles northeast of Sacramento.
The Sacramento Bee reports the girls offered to pick up milkshakes at a fast-food restaurant for the parents of one of the girls on Friday night.
The drug was mixed into the shakes and the couple fell asleep. The suspicious parents picked up a drug test kit the following day.
The girls told investigators they wanted to use the Internet, which was shut down daily at 10 p.m.
It's unclear what the girls did on the Internet.
A rather novel approach, albeit dangerous.
These California parents should have turned this around on the kids and started drugging their food. At least you would know they were asleep in their beds every night and would keep them out of all sorts of trouble. On the serious side, after I got done beating their spoiled little butts, They would be banned from ever using the Internet at home and would have to use it at school for their homework.
 @The Resistance But parents are not allowed to discipline their kids any more. They could actually go to jail for it. All it would take is for one of their friends to punch them on the arm hard enough to leave a bruise, let a teacher see it, and boom, the cops are at the parents house because they got a report of child abuse, especially when the kid tells the teacher his/her parents beat him/her, hence the bruise. This is why they are what they are today - disrespectful, ill mannered, and foul mouthed just to name a few.
Bahahahahaha..   My kids would have NEVER got away with this!!  These parents must be the dumbest on the planet!  Thanks for the laugh.Â
 @MrAchilles Because you would never let your kids get you some milk shakes?
"It's unclear what the girls did on the Internet."
Â
Oh, yeah...totally.
I'm not familiar with California statutes, but in Oregon this would be a serious crime:
Â
ORS 475.908: CAUSING ANOTHER PERSON TO INGEST A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE: (1) "A person commits the crime of causing another person to ingest a controlled substance if the person knowingly or intentionally causes the other person to ingest, other than by administering or dispensing, a controlled substance or controlled substance analog without the consent of the other person. A person who violates this subsection is guilty of a Class B felony."
Â
Frankly these parents have done things just the way they should have, first by at least attempting to set limits for their kids, then by being realistic enough to believe their kids might do something like this, and finally by following through with legal consequences. It's far better than spanking, especially for teenagers, who would only experience such a consequence as proof that the parents are completely unreasonable. Then the parents would open themselves up for false allegations to DHS, etc. But by using the legal system, the parents involve a neutral 3rd party (a judge) to help impress upon these youngsters that their behavior is totally unacceptable. The consequences last a lot longer than a spanking, too!Â
Â
Â
Those are some pretty extreme measures just to get on the internet! It makes me curious to know what they were doing. It better not be Facebook...
Â
Â
@phuzz LOL You've got it all wrong CIA prospects get drugged then the crap beaten out of them, part of the trainning.
Â
Â
Â
Â
Â
CIA prospects?
My parents would have beaten the crap out of me. That's whats wrong with kids these days. They test limits and the lack of discipline is basically condoning their behavior. I was terrified to do anything wrong growing up. SPANK YOUR CHILDREN!
Amen, Â time to actually punish these losers instead of slapping them on the hand. Â Oh, gosh, we can't do that. Â Punishing them would be going against their rights to be worthless idiots.
Weirdly enough, I'm kinda on the side of the teens here.......Parents who are paranoid enough to buy a drug test kit and then turn in their kids??? I mean, the kids are stupid, but he parents are obviously insane here. This is an all the way around mess as far as I'm concerned.
@NWGodfrey   I'll guarantee you, that had my kids done this to me, I would have not only turned them in, but preferred charges against them. Problem today is that nearly all kids have the attitude that they should be allowed to do anything they want, no matter who is hurt. Probably one of the biggest contributors to delinquents...lack of discipline...now required by society and the law!
 @NWGodfrey Yes and what if next time they went out driving not knowing they were drugged and killed one of your family members falling asleep at the wheel. Would you still feel the same way?
 @NWGodfrey If I thought someone drugged me, I sure as heck would want to find out what I was given. It's a pretty serious thing, if the parents do nothing the kids may think they can do that to someone else.Â
Just get a smartphone, then you are always online! Watch out though, it'll turn you into a zombie!
Please, OH PLEASE can we bring back beatings and the real punishments of old?
@cantcurestupid I agree. Too many people confuse "spanking" with "beating." Just for the record, spanking is literally defined as striking a child on the butt with your hand. Beating includes (but is not limited to) slapping of the face, using any instrument than your hand, pinching, hitting the thighs or legs, etc.
Â
So, when people say bring back spanking, they mean the use of striking a child on their butt with a hand; the punishment is supposed to instill a sense of fear, rather than physical pain. We all grew up with it, and most turned out fine.
 @cantcurestupid ...can we not?
 @Dalton K Get back to us after your kids rob a convenience store.
 @cantcurestupid There are a few Muslim countries you might like to live in.
That is pretty disgusting. Â Not sure what'd I'd do in that situation but I think they did the right thing...let the kids have the fear of God and prison put into their little empty heads.Â
 @BCH mom I would just change the WEP password and the girls would have zero internet access for the next 6 months, as well as no cell phone, and a 10pm curfew, no auto access etc...
@FreedomRocks @BCH mom  I doubt you would get away with it...they would just complain to police or teachers that they were being abused by not getting to do everything they want and you would then be in trouble. remember the kids now have the RIGHT to do anything, not just a privilege, and you no longer have the RIGHT to discipline your own kids!
Holy backfire, Batman!
 Look who just lost more than their internet privileges ...
 @Finally Lets hope...
@FreedomRocks @Finally amen!
