Suit alleges Bud, Michelob beer was watered down
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Beer lovers across the country have filed $5 million class-action lawsuits accusing Anheuser-Busch of watering down its Budweiser, Michelob and other brands.
The suits were filed in Pennsylvania, California and other states on behalf of consumers allegedly cheated out of the beverage's stated alcohol content. Budweiser and Michelob each boast being 5 percent alcohol, while some "light" versions are said to be just over 4 percent.
Lead lawyer Josh Boxer of San Rafael, Calif., said Tuesday the suits are based on information from former employees at some of the company's 13 U.S. breweries. Boxer said water is added just before bottling, and cuts the stated alcohol content by 3 to 8 percent.
The multinational Anheuser-Busch InBev calls the claims groundless, and says its beers fully comply with labeling laws.

who cares? thats why they call it buttwiper! no self respecting beer drinker drinks it!
I always thought they tasted "green".. they didn't keep it long enough to age properly before sending it out on the market. Nasty.. I've tasted much better beers then these two!
And the attorneys say KA-CHING!!! Class action, baby!
The big time.... We get mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmillions in billable hours, and the consumers get a $50 check if they sign up.Â
Whoooo, ya, baby!
Gotta love them liars... er, rather, lawyers. Always looking out for the consumer (so long as the pockets of the offending litigants are deep enough).
In stead of suing them, the beer drinkers should be saying a big thankyou. Â Just think how many drunks would have failed the field sobriety tests if they had drank the real thing. Â This may have saved them thousands and maybe a few days in jail. Â There are some good beers out there, but microbrews are not them. Â I have only tried one that I liked and they went out of business. Â The rest were just plain nasty, almost as if they were opened before they were ready. Â That said, I am still game and will try others.
Adding water to their beer? I thought they were adding beer to their water.
This is news ?????
Who drinks those beers for the alcohol content?
Have you ever gone out for beers with a Canadian? They never stop bitching about our weak beer.
I graduated from university in Canada, lived in a house with a bunch of others, I was the only US. We made a trip or two into the states to visit my family and other students relatives. Drinking age is 19 but we managed to get some beer aka water while here. Think 3.2 is what was here, the real beer was Blue!!!! Not so now though
Ahhh, now it all makes sense that's why I have to pee everytime I drink it.
Why not sue. McDonalds paid millions for having hot coffee
If you drink these beers, you deserve what you get. It basically tastes like water anyway. Good grief. We have so many good microbrews in the Pacific Northwest you would think people would go out and buy something better than Bud and Michelob.Â
Folks, you truly don't know what watered down beer is until you've been to Utah. Remember Apple Beer? A watery non alcohol beverage that had a slight beer taste offered back in the 60' and 70's. Well, that is Utah beer-bland and boring. While living there for a short time we would travel across the border to Wyoming and get REAL beer with no restrictions like Utah. What a difference. So it's true that alcohol content can vary from state to state.Â
Was there ever any doubt?
I thought this was common knowledge.
How could anyone tell?
