Supreme Court will hear campaign donation limits appeal

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court will hear a challenge to campaign finance laws limiting how much an individual can give to political campaigns.
The justices on Tuesday decided to hear an appeal from Shaun McCutcheon of Alabama and the Republican National Committee. They are arguing that it's unconstitutional to stop a donor from giving more than $46,200 to political candidates and $70,800 to political committees and PACs.
McCutcheon says he accepts that he can only give $2,500 to a single candidate but says he should be able to give that amount to as many GOP candidates as he wants.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia upheld the limits, but the high court decided to review that decision.

Set a dollar limit on political contributions.
Do not allow any corporation, foreign body or special interest organisation i.e. la raza to make any political contributions. If the ceo, cfo etc. of a corporation wish to contribute then fine but it must come from their taxable income not from the corporation.
Dio
U should get free play money with all the hot air you are expelling
Remove campaign donation limits.....like they didn't spend enough last election cycle? Gawd....ridiculous.
Give the candidates 3 weeks, 5 TV spots, 3 debates open the ANY party, and $100, maybe then the best person will win. Until then it's a couple of politicians representing corporate interests.
Why don't we have short elections like in Britain and many European countries. If you can't get your message across to the public in 6 weeks then perhaps you shouldn't be running for office. Shorter elections would mean less money being spent to buy politicians. Just think of the good all those millions of dollars that went into the Romney and Obama war chests.
Talk about campaign donations aka loans that must be paid back by supporting the goal of the lender, look at how la raza bought and paid for the village idiot and the Oregon idiots in the state house. (in state for illegals but not those legally living in Wa. or ID)Â
Its called give the mexicans what they want when they want it at the expence of the legal US citizens.
It will be a sad day in the US when our police chiefs and prosecutors are murdered as happened in mexico this week. Coming to a town near you!
@FreerideNOT
" look at how la raza bought and paid"...ok, I'm waiting to look, cites ???
Sar
Why don't you be a good boy and find the cites to disprove my statements. Do ID. & Wa. legal residents get in state in Oregon?
Oh wait I am sorry you are living in your grandma's basesment without windows...are you a Lanza?
Check CNN for the police chiefs murdr
Sar
That puts me about 10 yrs. ahead of your maturity level.
Hope your grandma can afford the electric power it takes to operate her computer.  BTW: Does she know your on an adult site?Â
@FreerideNOTÂ Your comments age you at about a 14 year old pimply faced dweeb ! What next ? you gonna say something about rubber and glue ? Sheeeze Dio is on to you....stupid , immature or insane...I vote number one !
@FreerideNOTÂ
Typical republiCON, make a claim then tell others to disprove it. What a dope !
@FreerideNOTÂ
Are you stupid, immature, or legitimately insane? Â I ask because I can't tell which. Â I know it's one of the three, for sure.
dio
Here is a claim that I can make and your comments prove me correct......U are super super dumb. This is not a stupid claim.
dio
Naw I will leave it up to you and sar to disprove my claim.
Not a stupid claim at all la raza supports illegal enter/remain in the US. Bet la raza gets a bunch of $$$$$$$$ from the mexican drug cartel
@FreerideNOTÂ Figure you need some lurn'n free !

That's not how it works. Â YOU made the claim, you prove your point or take it back. Â If I were you, I'd take it back, since that was an extraordinarily stupid claim.
Campaign donations should only be allowed from private citizens. Not corporations pretending to a person, but a private US citizen. Corporations and private interest should not be allowed to buy an election for themselves so they can get "their guy" in office and then ask for special favors.
I have no faith in the Supreme joke Court. I'm sure they'll go right along with this. Money has gotten us into this political mess, and I see no reason to jack up the donation max. It's time to take the money out of politics.
I'm sure roberts, scalia, thomas, alito and kennedy will give thumbs up for even more private interest money to get into politics !
Afterall, they are the "corporations are people" republiCON unjustices !
@sargerator Get over yourself. They ALL take money.
@axpman @sargerator Who made it legal for them to take humongus amounts of money ??? Refer back to my original comment for the answer !
They should be outlawed all together - including the PACs. It is not a democracy when the politicians are bought by the highest bidder.
It won't affect the way things are done. Â Politicians will just follow the lead of the banking industry. Â They will just find another legal way to obtain the same results. Â When ego, power and greed are the main reasons for being a politician, they will do anything possible to protect their own interests. Â The wants and needs of the public take a back seat. Â
How about we reduce the amount Mr. McCutcheon can give to a single candidate to $0? Then he can give that amount to as many candidates as he wants.
Money and democracy do not mix.
Big donors want to buy as many politicians as they can while us commoners are stuck with whoever these folks buy.
Ralph
la raza bought the village idiot
@RalphCramdenÂ
Careful Ralph, that sounds like the beginings of a progressive argument.Â
Don't want to be seen as one of the "commies" now do ya?Â
:)
@RepomanÂ
There are some things from every form of government that have benefits.
