Authorities: Fight led to Texas college shooting
HOUSTON (AP) - A fight between two people led to a shooting at a Texas community college, where a maintenance man was caught in the crossfire and wounded, officials said.
One of the people involved in the fight was a student, and both people were wounded and hospitalized, Harris County Sheriff's Maj. Armando Tello said. A fourth person, a woman with a student ID, also was taken to a hospital for a medical condition, he said.
The shooting that happened before 1 p.m. sent students scurrying for safety on the Lone Star College System campus about 20 miles north of downtown Houston. Some barricaded themselves in the rooms they were in, while others fled to nearby buildings.
Mark Zaragosa said he had just come out of an EMT class when he saw two people who were injured and stopped to help them. Officers had not yet arrived, he said.
"The two people that I took care of had just minor injuries," Zaragosa told KHOU. "One gentleman had a gunshot to the knee and the (other) actually had an entry wound to the lower buttocks area."
Richard Carpenter, chancellor of the Lone Star College System, said the shooting happened outside between an academic building and the library.
It came one month after a gunman attacked an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., killing 20 children and heightening security concerns at campuses across the country. In Texas, several school districts have either implemented or are considering a plan to allow faculty to carry guns on campus. Guns are not allowed on college campuses, but the Texas Legislature this year may debate a bill that would allow them.
At least 10 police cars clustered on the campus' west side as emergency personnel tended to the wounded and loaded them on stretchers. Students led by officers ran from the buildings where they had been hiding as police evacuated the campus.
Keisha Cohn, 27, who also is studying to be a paramedic, said she was inside a building about 50 feet away from where the shots were fired. She heard "no less than five" shots and started running.
She fled to the campus learning center, which houses computers and study areas. Eventually, a deputy showed up and escorted people out, she said. Like many students, she ended up leaving her car on the campus, which was closed for the day.
Daniel Flores, 19, was in a second-floor tutoring lab with about 60 people when he heard a noise that sounded "like someone was kicking a door."
Once he and others realized the sound was gunfire, they fled to the nearby student services center, where authorities kept them for about 30 minutes before letting them go.
Cody Harris, 20, said he was in a classroom with about six or seven other students waiting for a psychology class to start when he heard eight shots. He and other students looked at each other, said "I guess we should get out of here," and fled.
"I was just worried about getting out," Harris said. "I called my grandmother and asked her to pick me up."

 @deejm2112 leave your job, get on welfare, and hangout here with us.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry is being briefed about the situation by law enforcement personnel, Perry spokesman Josh Havens said.
"(Perry's) thoughts and prayers are with those that have been impacted," Havens said. "We have nothing more to add at this point, but the governor will continue to closely monitor the situation."

 @dboon4 Pulp Fiction is just....fiction. The following is real-life:
Â
Scott Stith was in his bedroom when he heard a loud crash coming from the first floor of his home. He grabbed his .45 cal. pistol and crept downstairs to investigate. He spotted the silhouette of a man, but did not fire because he had teenage sons in the house and was not 100 percent sure of his target. He called out only to discover the man was an intruder who had broken through the glass of the back door. Stith held the 29-year-old intruder at gunpoint until police arrived. Everyone involved was reportedly unharmed. (Sandusky Register., Milan, OH, 9/29/12)
 @NotAChance The Sandusky register?  Interesting to say the least.  Let me know when you get to 1100. Here's one a click away.

Two armed men stormed into a Dollar General store one evening and attempted to rob it. While the men held the store manager at gunpoint, a 57-year-old man carrying a concealed .45 cal. handgun, who had been shopping at the store at the time of the robbery, took action. The customer did not hesitate to draw his gun and fire at the suspects. One of the men robbing the store suffered fatal wounds to the head, chest and shoulder. The second suspect fled, but was later caught and charged with robbery and felony murder. There were reportedly no other injuries. (The Florida Times-Union, Jacksonville, FL, 8/29/12)

While at home with his wife and daughter, a homeowner prepared to go outside to investigate a sudden power outage. His wife asked him to carry his firearm with him as a precaution. As he opened the front door to step outside, three men charged him in an attempt to gain entry. The homeowner pushed his wife aside as he fell backward and fired at the intruders. His daughter, a student in her early 20s, hid in another room and called police. One of the three home invaders suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was listed in serious condition. The remaining two suspects managed to escape. The homeowner and his family were not seriously injured. (Sun Sentinel, Miramar, FL, 10/2/12)

 @gunnutz  @NotAChance So now what? Disarm citizens, when you know d.a.m.n. well that the criminals will still have them?
 @NotAChance  @gunnutz that is to bad that they hard to come by. I love my .22LR.
 @TreeWizard  @gunnutz Ahem, that should have been "Not to mention"....
 @TreeWizard  @gunnutz No to mention, finding 22LR at the moment is harder than panning for gold. Sigh...
 @NotAChance  @gunnutz lol, ya lost cause. I thought we were talking about AR-15s not .22s.
 @TreeWizard  @gunnutz Do you realize how long he was gone, desperately trying to find his evidence? So he could come back and victoriously proclaim "they do exist!  they do! they do!". And yet, it took him "5 seconds". And no, I still don't think he actually comprehended your response.Â
Â
So typical...Â
 @gunnutz  @TreeWizard  @NotAChance Maybe you should reread what I said mmkay.
 @TreeWizard  @gunnutz LOL.....
 @gunnutz  @NotAChance because 50 round mags are so common.Â
 @dboon4  @gunnutz Still waiting.
Â
Tapping toes....
 @gunnutz  @NotAChance He's right imagine a world where every elderly lady was packing.  Sounds like heaven to me.
 @dboon4  @gunnutz Please, pray tell.
 @gunnutz  @NotAChance I see. Right off the top it's a "400 (lbs) chubby redn3ck", eh? Way to take the high road.
Â
What am I scared of? Nothing, at the moment. Why do you ask? Need to "project" some more?
 @gunnutz  @NotAChance I think I know. Â
 @gunnutz Not to mention, the whole point is that a 98 lbs and 80 year old woman has a practical chance against an attacker.Â
Â
Unless you're going to train her in the way of Jedi?
 @NotAChance That is a fantastic story Mr. NRA!  Please tell me more.  Maybe your stories will bring back all innocent victims of gun murders
 @dboon4 You're welcome. I'll keep 'em coming. PUTZ!
 @dboon4  @NotAChance @Playanekes @gunnutz @Fed up FedÂ
Â
Have you seen the sandy hook utube video? Â 11million views, you gotta see this. Â Just go there and type sandy hook, its the top video.
 @dboon4  @NotAChance Did you hear that thanks to Mario Cuomo's attempt to ram a gun ban down the citizen's throats so quickly that he forgot to run it by a mayor, sheriff, deputy, cop, recruit or somebody who might know a cop, the official weapon of the NYPD is the board with a nail in it?Oops. Forgot to exempt the police and his own guards. That's how the beans were spilled. That why you can't win.Meanwhile, instead of carrying 10 13-round magazines to Columbine High School, Harris carried 13 10-round magazines--allowable under Obama legislation--during the assault weapons ban and, you see, that made ALL the difference. Banning 13 round magazines and assault weapons, well, that protected Americans in Columbine almost as well as it did in Oklahoma City.
Â
You can't win because it's been thirty years since we started talking about it and people just keep outfoxing reactionary liberals whenever they feel like it. Fact. Liberals failed to protect the firefighters because liberal laws let a murderer back out onto the street instead of putting a rope around his neck like they did to Abe Lincoln's murderer.
 @TreeWizard  @dboon4 "NAC". I like that. Thanks!
 @dboon4  @NotAChance Umm. Dboon4 I think the stories NAC is linking are supposed to have fewer casualties. The people that acted prevented loss of Innocent life or less of a loss.Â
 @dboon4 Around 5 a.m. on October 9, 2012, 72-year-old Jerry Duncan called police to report that he had fired a single shot at someone who had cut his electricity and was attempting to break into his home. Before Duncan fired he told the perpetrator to go away, but 51-year-old William Ragsdell of Lake Elsinore did not acquiesce. The shot was fatal, and Ragsdell died at 6:15 a.m. at the Inland Balley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar. (The Press-Enterprise, Riverside, CA, 10/9/12)
 @NotAChance Over 1100 gun deaths since the Sandy Brook shootings.  When you get to 1100,  I will come back.
 @dboon4  @NotAChance Now you're learning. At this rate, in a few years you might be mowing his lawn.
 @dboon4 I care about a lot of people. Just not you, sorry.
Â
And you're quitting so soon, I'm rather disappointed.
 @NotAChance It actually sounds like you don't care about anyone.  That is the real problem.
 @dboon4  @NotAChance I can find mass killings with more victims, without someone being shot.
 @dboon4 Interesting, as I couldn't obviously give a crap about you.
 @NotAChance Not an insult, I'm actually worried about you.  What time does your Mommy get home from work.  Maybe you are getting a little sleepy and need a nap.
 @dboon4 Oh, resorting to insults now, are we? PUTZ?
 @NotAChance You got what 3,  I have 26, 20 of them kids.  And you are trying to have a discussion about this?  I am beginning to see the mental health angle.
 @dboon4 Sure. let's play.
Â
Zachary Rogers, 26, was working late one night at the 21st Amendment liquor store. It was just past midnight when an armed man wearing a ski mask entered the store and forced Rogers and another store employee, Alicia Grabarczyk, 25, down a hallway toward an office where the safe was kept. With a concealed handgun in his front pocket, Rogers chose his moment of opportunity carefully. In one quick motion, Rogers pushed Grabarczyk to the floor and fired at the armed robber. He then helped Grabarczyk into the office and out of the line of fire. Although the burglar had been struck, Rogers saw him raise his firearm. Rogers fired three more rounds at the gunman which proved fatal. Neither Rogers nor Grabarczyk were harmed. (Indianapolis Star, Indianapolis, IN, 10/11/12)
 @dboon4  @NotAChance You know I can though.
 @NotAChance Do you really want to play this game? You can't win.
 @NotAChance here's the only one I could find

Â
Kendra St. Clair, a 12-year-old at home alone one day during her fall break, called her mother at work to say there was a man repeatedly ringing the doorbell and banging on the door. When no one answered the door, she said he disappeared. St. Clair's mother instructed her daughter to get her .40-cal. Glock pistol and go into a bathroom closet. St. Clair heard him break in through the back door. As the man made his way through her home, 911 dispatchers kept St. Clair on the phone. He was inside the home for approximately six minutes before he made his way to the bathroom where St. Clair was hiding. When she saw the door knob begin to turn, she fired the gun. The 32-year-old intruder was taken into custody after being treated for a gunshot to the chest. (The Oklahoman, Durant, OK, 10/20/12)
 @NotAChance Put the mirror away!Â
 @dboon4 Not angry at all. Laughing at another mental midget, though.
 @NotAChance Name calling?  Don't get angry.  We all know what happens when gunnuts get angry!
