SEATTLE -- The Coast Guard says a 71-year-old man who was pulled unconscious from the ocean off La Push was pronounced dead at a hospital on Tuesday.

Coast Guard spokesman Jeff Pollinger says the Port Angeles station received a mayday call at 9:47 a.m. from the boat as it was going down.

All three people who were on the capsized 23-foot boat were pulled out of the water by two charter fishing boats that were in the area.

The crew on one of the charter boats performed CPR on one of the men pulled from the water while they waited for Coast Guard crews to arrive.

A Coast Guard helicopter flew two of the people to Forks Community Hospital and a Canadian Coast Guard copter flew the third person to the same hospital.

The name of the man who died has not been released. The other two were being treated for hypothermia.

Pollinger says there were 13-foot seas and fog at the scene where a halibut fishing derby was under way, but it was not known what caused the boat to go down.

Two other boats in the area also required assistance from the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard dropped a pump to a 22-foot boat that was taking on water with four people aboard. After the boat was stabilized, a motor lifeboat from the Coast Guard's Quillayute River station towed the boat to shore.

And a 26-foot boat that lost power in heavy seas, except for a small kicker engine, was also towed to La Push.
