VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - By late May, the climb to the summit of Mount St. Helens is usually a day hike.

The Mount St. Helens Institute says it's currently a two- or three-day hike because the snow is still deep and soft.

Instead of the traditional 9-mile route from Monitor Ridge, climbers have to start from the Marble Mountain Snopark, making a 15-mile round trip.
