OREGON COAST - Volunteers will be combing Oregon's coastline this weekend as part of SOLVE's annual spring beach cleanup.
Every year around this time our beaches gets a thorough spring cleaning thanks to hard working folks who spend a few hours picking up all the trash that has accumulated during the winter months.
Last spring, volunteers picked up 58,883 pounds of trash and were able to recycle 1,565 pounds of it. Some of the unusual finds included a teddy bear from Illinois, a disc from Russia and a Big Wheel riding toy.
And of course, there is the tsunami debris from Japan that continues to wash ashore (anyone who finds something they believe is tsunami debris is asked to report the find to DisasterDebris@noaa.gov).
This weekend's cleanup is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and there is still time to get in on the effort if you'd like to help out.
