BEAVERTON, Ore. – A laser spa that was the subject of a state investigation is now shutting down its operations.

The owners of Forever Young Laser Medical Spa posted a notice on their website telling customers about the closure.

“It wasn't one thing that led us here, but instead, a flurry of regulatory changes and inquiries from State Agencies over the past several months, along with negative publicity which damaged our reputation beyond repair, that has drained our business and has led us to the incredibly painful decision today to close our doors at the end of this week,” the online notice said.

KATU first reported on Forever Young in March when we learned the state attorney general’s office and the Better Business Bureau had received dozens of complaints that the spa didn’t properly handle payments and treated customers poorly.

For example, in March customer Adriene Smith told us she pre-paid for a $1,500 package but was told she couldn’t be treated because of a skin condition. When Smith went to get her money back, she said the spa would not refund her payment.

Despite several attempts, Smith was only refunded her money after KATU started asking questions.

Many customers we spoke with at the Hillsboro location were surprised to see the spa closed without warning.

Pat Elden showed up for a facial and found the door locked, the sign empty and a sign saying the store was "merging" with the Tanasbourne location. The sign did not say, however, that all the locations are closing on Friday.

"I was here last week for my appointment and nothing was said," Elden told us. "I guess they will need to refund my money, won't they?"

Past stories on Forever Young and laser spas:

The state justice department says yes, customers are entitled to refunds for services they did not receive.

In their statement, the owners of Forever Young said they have or are in the process of working out arrangements for people who have already pre-paid for services.

People with pre-paid tanning packages will be able to honor their Forever Young packages at Portland-area Tan Republic locations.

"Please come, please be patient with us over the next few days," said Peter Lamka with Tan Republic. "We are going to serve you to the best of our abilities."

As for pre-paid laser customers, the owners said they are “currently exploring multiple options” for other local providers to pick up those clients.

“Please know that we are determined to find a solution for you,” the owners wrote.

If you don't receive a refund or aren't happy with alternate arrangements you can file a complaint online with the state department of justice.
