Loan scammers target local people desperate for money
TIGARD, Ore. – Robert Fair got a call from a company called Consumer Payday Loans out of Florida promising him a loan for $2,000. The call came at a time when he needed money desperately.
Fair says he's in constant pain and needs to speak through a special valve implanted in his throat after cancer surgery. It's one of his many health problems.
"This tooth that's missing fell out about a month ago," he says pointing to it.
He's been looking for a loan for dental work and got a call saying he was approved.
"I said, 'hallelujah!' Finally, some good news."
He just had to send money to the loan company for fees: First, $272, then $450.
"It didn't even cross my mind at the time. I was just so happy that someone said yes," Fair says.
Then they told him the loan was stuck because he had bad credit, and he needed to pay more. Suddenly, he understood.
"You guys are just stealing my money," Fair says. "I said, 'I want my money back.'"
KATU News called the company. Its response: "What we are doing, it's a loan company. We are providing the loan to the people."
At first the company representatives tried to claim they sent Fair his loan, but they didn't provide any evidence they had done so.
"You don't know anything about my company, about me, about my power. ... I'm going to hang up the call. You have a good day ..." the representative said to a KATU News reporter.
Your best defense against these kinds of calls is to hang up as well. You don't need to pay money in advance for a loan. You do need to check out the business first.
If u need a reliable and genuine loan help for any purpose, and don't want to be a victim of loan scam,I think this is for you.All posts of loan lenders giving loans on-line especially on these sites are SCAMS..The referrals here as well are bunch of scammers.Don't contact them for your own good. This is a story of how I was ripped off my hard earned cash by some idiots on-line that calls themselves lenders and how I finally got my financial freedom from a God sent loan officer within 36 hours at just 5% as interest. For more info and interest, email me via "kenshawwjeanne@gmail.com"

Got taken many years ago - a "pooled" loan...my husband and I paid $200 with a promise to get a $2,000 loan...when we called after 5 weeks we were put on hold...for an HOUR. Â There are NO FEES for legitimate loans. Â How sad that people still get ripped off like this!
Why does greed and money make people so evil????
I feel bad that this guy is going through some hell but he should of done a little more research before he gave them money.Â
The BBB has graded Consumer Payday Loans with an F rating.

Just a simple Google search of "Consumer Payday Loans" (with quotes) tells the story about this place. It's unfortunate that some people don't take the time to research the companies they plan to do business with beforehand.
While this company is clearly not operating in any ethical manner, the old adage rings true, there's a sucker born every day. And while people are at times desperate to borrow money, it doesn't mean you should take the first approval you receive without doing some research. I swear, I wish there were a cure for stupid sometimes.
This man should have know better than to give any information over the phone. I am sure he will never get any of his money back. These people scammers prey on people that really need the help. Take the time to check these places out first. I am sure if you tols these people that you are going to check them out and start asking them personnal questions, they will hang up on them and you will never hear from them again.
don't give your money to an out of state business. might as well send it to Russia
You do not pay someone to loan you money... that is what interest is for... yeah some places may have an application fee, but those are usually a flat fee (for a credit report and stuff) but no 200 to 400 dollars like this guy was paying. Â
So tired of these stories. Â It's not bad enough they fall for this stuff, then they have to be on the news and embarrass themselves further. Â Those that don't get there are scams out there after all the press on it never will. Â No sympathy here.
Another sucker, falling for a scam that has been around and reported on a lot. Sorry to hear he is out $722. but he can only have himself to blame.
When I get the proceeds from my 25 million dollar lottery win I am going to send this guy a lot of money, I have sent the per-paid taxes to a PO Box in Nigeria and should have my money any day now :) And to think I did not even enter the lottery, how lucky am I???
Well I guess the next time somebody cold calls me and tells me to send them money I shouldn't do it. Whew!!!! Sure glad I found out now instead of afterwards.
I can't believe that people fall for these scams. I'm not the brightest bulb in the house but..................Dammmmmmmmmmmmm! Come'on people time to smarten up...
''A sucker born every minute''Â I feel sympathy for this man but he is an adult and should of known better? P.T. Barnum is laughing or at least chuckling right now !
If he needed a loan for $2000 and paid the scammer $722 then all he really needed was $1278 more and he wouldn't have to borrow the money.
Â
Fiscally challenged?
And for $722 he should have been able to go to the OHSU Dental School and have that tooth fixed. Sad all around, more scum out and happy to screw society.
I'm sorry this guy got taken but how many of these scams have to occur before people get smart? If anyone asks for money to give you money, it's a scam. If anyone asks for your bank account, its a scam. I will be glad when people stop making it easy for these scammers.
He had the money to fix his tooth.. But instead gave it away to a company who is just a bunch of thieves..
I feel bad for the guy, but that was one dumb move on his part..
If its too good to be true it is!  Just had this discussion with the oldest stepdaughter on a pharmacy card claiming to save 75% off the cost of pharmacy scripts. Yeah right! I looked it up and sure enough, scam! *shakes head* Its so easy to research this kind of thing. Consumer complaints, scams, and scam phone calls turn up in short order - just google the company name with scam or consumer complaint or the phone number - Phone numbers should cough up places like 800notes or whocallsme!    Easy! Then you read up on the boards just to see what they say!
Don't make yourself easy prey folks. If they are seeking you out, it is probably for nefarious reasons.
@randomdude That same truism applies to every single credit card company out there... and almost all of the politicians, too.
