PORTLAND, Ore. - It's no mystery for people looking for work that it's a tough job just to find a job these days.

But if you're a teenager, or even between the age of 17 and 25, the prospects are downright dismal: the unemployment rate is a staggering 37 percent.

But at a recent job fair in Portland, local employers focused on youth.

Companies like Gunderson, Boeing, Nike and many others set up exhibits and talked to young job seekers and possible future employees about what it takes to land a job or break into an industry today.

A youth employment advocate said young people need to stay focused - and stay in school until they graduate in order to compete with other graduates entering the job market.

Organizers said about 4,500 people attended the job fair.
