Photo gallery: The annual fishing derby at Detroit Lake
DETROIT, Ore. - A lot of folks head out of town every year for Memorial Day weekend but there are also a lot of people who take advantage of the weekend before the big holiday rush by heading to Detroit for the town's annual fishing derby.
Last weekend, the tents went up, the trailers and motorhomes pulled in, the boats got wet and the anglers rigged up their fishing poles hoping for a shot at winning a shiny new Smoker Craft boat (the grand prize).
This year the weather was fantastic at Detroit Lake - sunny and warm (maybe a little too warm, but it sure beat getting rained on!). The fishing wasn't as hot as the mercury, but folks had a great time anyway. Here are some photos:
