GLADSTONE, Ore. - If you haven't heard about the First Tee Program at the Children's Course in Gladstone then you are missing an inspiration to children of all ages.

You see, they don't just teach golf, they teach life skills.  And this week, the program stepped out even further to enhance the lives of children by putting on their first ever week-long special needs camp.

"To be able to teach children the joys that you can have in golf and that includes the things that you can learn in golf and things that you can take home with you," said Executive Director Dennis Schrag.

"They're just happy children that have learned to get along with each other and are learning golf course etiquette and some of the basic golf techniques," said First Tee Teaching Pro Carol Erwin.

More importantly, they learn how to overcome problems and how to work with others - skills they can take with them for the rest of their lives.

"Just seeing the smiles on the kids' faces and seeing them feel like they are successful, whether the shot goes in the air or whether the shot just dribbles off the mat - a lot of times that's success to them," said Erwin.

Out at the Children's Course, they make golf available to everybody.  So if you can't afford to take your kids golfing, head on out there.  They supply clubs, they let you play on the course and they even give you lessons.
