PORTLAND, Ore. - Another couple says a local pastor has broken repeated promises with them - leaving them in financial turmoil.

The pastor, Corey Pritchett, is currently under investigation by the state Attorney General's Office.

KATU News has spoken with more than a dozen people who say Pritchett has not fulfilled real estate promises, taking tens of thousands of dollars. Former employees of Pritchett's have also said he has not paid them fully for their work.

The latest people to come forward with complaints about Pritchett are Josh Beasley and Melinda Foster, who tried to buy a southeast Portland home from him. They saw it advertised as a rent-to-own. Though the home was not in great shape, it was a chance at ownership for a family with damaged credit.

The couple gave Pritchett a $2,000 down payment in November. They were ready to move in but the former resident had not moved out.

"And (Pritchett) told us we would have to be in the motel for one week, and then the house would be ready for us to move in," Foster said.

They stayed in Room 32 at Portland Value Inn for four months with their five kids, burning all their savings and hoping the deal would come through.

The couple said Pritchett tried to keep their trust by reminding them he was a pastor.

"Anything he told me, I believed him, because he always had the Bible right there," Foster said.

They say they had so little money they could not pay the fee for the storage facility holding their belongings. So everything they owned was sold.

And the deal never came through. Now, though, they have found a new home and are trying to trust again.

Pritchett has not returned calls for comment.

He has non-profit status for a Christian charity that he runs in addition to his work in real estate. The Oregon State Police has searched his home as part of an ongoing investigation.
