SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Salem police say a dispute that began on a high-tech note with insults sent via text message wound up in a brawl with 15 to 20 people wielding old-fashioned sticks and bats.

Lieutenant Steve Birr says the fight doesn't appear to be gang-related. He says it happened early Tuesday after about three hours of threats and insults flying between cell phones.

Then, he says, the disputants decided to meet at a street corner to settle things.

Police say they quickly broke up the fight. Officers say five people appeared to be "primary aggressors" and have been arrested on riot charges.
