Old warehouse powers up with new solar roof
SALEM, Ore. (AP) - An almost century-old industrial warehouse in northeast Salem now has the city's largest photovoltaic power system, claiming the title from potato chip maker Kettle Foods. Solar modules cover the roof of a 40,000-square-foot warehouse owned by the Nathan Levin Co. A package of state and federal incentives for renewable-energy projects helped persuade company owner Nate Levin to make the investment. The modules on Levin's building can generate an estimated 150,000 to 167,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year. Zephyr Engineering, a metal parts manufacturer and tenant, is the main user of the electricity. --- Information from: Statesman Journal,
