UK: Apple must apologize again over copycat claims

LONDON (AP) - British judges say Apple needs to apologize once more for falsely claiming that South Korea's Samsung copied its iPad, the latest embarrassing episode in the tech rivals' world-spanning patent battle.
Apple Inc. was ordered to print an apology on its website after British judges repeatedly rejected its claim that Samsung Electronics Co. ripped off its designs when creating its own tablet computer, the Galaxy Tab.
Apple did post an apology, but judges at London's High Court ruled Thursday that it didn't go far enough and ordered a new one posted to its site within 48 hours.
Samsung and Apple are locked in a series of international lawsuits over alleged copyright violations, including a California case which saddled Samsung with a $1 billion fine for copying Apple's design.

And in other news:
PORTLAND, Maine -- A small technology company based in Portland, Maine, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Microsoft over elements included in Windows 8.
Â
You Know , we the little people get our toys taken away when we infringe on copy writes and so forth, but here, these companies, either have created something that looks like something else, or have stolen it from others. Frankly I don't give a rats behind . It is all a game what what really irks me is that we the consumers have to pay for it in apps that get broken, so I have turned off the auto update feature and I have this one comment to state:
Â
It is time to change some legal jargon of patents that have every day shapes and such and toss them out the window.
Apple along with the other company really need to let things go, and MS too.
Start thinking about hte consumers that have to put up with your crap.
time to Open up and make it all Open Source.
Â
Never in my life haw I seen such distaine for copy writes as I have sen through corporations.
And they expect people to obey the laws when companies them selves can not.?
@lee986321 Maybe you should check out monstercable they patened the word "monster". They even sued disney for the Movie "Monster inc." They have gone after monster.com and any buddy that uses the word monster. To patent a word that has been around long before the company existed seems like an insane thing to do IMO. So I would agree our patent laws needs some revision.

Oh Please, this technology is in 2004 and it is 2012 it is over 8 years .MS implemented it and SurfCast hasn't a ground to stand on.
Dang that was fast, I didn't think KATU would follow up on that lead.
Â
The sad part here is, in the world in which we live anymore, almost everything looks like almost everything else, cars, houses, phones, computers, people. There is very rarely anything to make one product more distinguishable from another. So really all this is is a larger version of "I want more money so Im going to sue you" crap.
@cantcurestupid You know who gets shafted right, Us the consumers, I could careless if it is Apple, Microsoft, or Sony, when every one sues everyone, WE LOSE. can't these guys just freaking grow up? it seems that copyright laws are reeking havoc on everything. What I would like to see is Apple, Microsoft and Sony all get humiliated at once.
They should write it like this "Dear Samsung, we apologize for making a product that was so popular that you felt it necessary to blatantly infringe on our patents."
 @RamsesthegreatÂ
Â
Apple is not claiming that Samsung (who for the most part makes the things that makes an iPad an iPad) infringed on its intellectual property, but that the Samsung devices âlook too muchâ like Apples.
Â
A legitimate complaint, had the two things looked anything alike, or worked anything alike, or could be bought at the same places.
Â
But they arenât, so there is little to no ability for a consumer to be confused. That is Samsungâs counter-complaint and the UK judge saw that as true.
Â
Unfortunately since US consumers are pretty dumb they sided with Apple.
Â
I mean a magic black box is a magic black box right?
Â
@Repoman  @Ramsesthegreat Unless the "black box" is either "glossy or flat black", hmm actually some black boxes are red, or some other color(s).. Or are we talking about a "Black" Black Box"?
Â
@lee986321 @Repoman @Ramsesthegreat Or as apple succefully argued a square phone with round corners. I believe the samsung blackjack was square with round corners before the iphone came out. To patent a shape is over reaching IMO.
