Vancouver couple frantic over missing parrot
VANCOUVER, Wash. - A talking parrot has gone missing and her owners are doing all they can to get her back.
To the Carters in Vancouver, their Mini Macaw named Savannah is like a child and they believe someone has kidnapped their baby. The exotic, high-priced bird escaped two weeks ago when they took it outside on a leash.
The bird flew to a nearby tree but did not fly down. Determined to get her baby back, Diana Carter waited on her roof for eight hours, trying to coax the bird down. But it didn't work.
A man who considers himself something of a pet detective is now on the case. Chris Driggins with Northwest Bird Rescue said his investigation reveals the bird may be in someone's home. He said a woman who claimed she found the Macaw in her yard and said her son had gotten attached to it changed her story when confronted.
"I feel they may be motivated to sell it to possibly a breeder or anyone that's willing to give them a couple hundred dollars," Driggins said.
The Carters just want their bird back.
"We just want Savannah," said owner Diana Carter. "We just want to get her to the vet, make sure she's OK and we want her back in our family."
Anyone who finds the bird, or knows where it is, is asked to call Driggins at 360-BIRDMAN or 503-BIRDMAN. Northwest Bird Rescue is also offering a reward - they will replace Savannah with an exotic bird that is of higher value and will keep all information confidential.
