PORTLAND, Ore. - Commuters trying to cross the Steel Bridge Wednesday morning got an eyeful while they sat stopped in traffic.

An extra-long semi hauling a huge section of pipe attempted to cross the Steel Bridge near the Rose Garden and ended up shearing off power poles and getting high-centered.

The truck had picked up the big pipe locally and was trying to get back on the highway and head for Tennessee when police say the guide car headed across the Steel Bridge and the truck attempted to follow.

The low-riding trailer became stuck on the curved approach to the bridge and sheared off power poles as it tried to make a corner.

The driver was cited for several violations and crews worked to clear the truck and reconnect power lines.

The truck eventually made it to the highway and rolled out of town.
