Father delivers baby girl on side of freeway

LAKEWOOD, Wash. -- Sometimes even a muscle car isn't fast enough.
A man rushing his pregnant wife to the hospital Tuesday night ended up delivering the baby in his car on the side of the freeway.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill said troopers were first alerted to the incident when they received reports from other drivers about a Dodge Challenger being driven erratically on State Route 512.
Gill said the car belonged to a man who's wife was in labor in the passenger seat as he tried to get to Madigan Army Medical Center.
The man realized the baby wasn't going to wait, so he pulled over near the I-5 interchange, called 911 and his wife gave birth inside the Challenger before police or medics arrived.
Gill said all the medics had to do once they got to the scene was cut the umbilical cord. The family was taken to the hospital to be checked out and Gill said mom and baby are "doing great."

Bet they never sell that car! Â :)
The car will be a classic when she is 18.. dad should save the car for her :D
And she gets to be born in a sweet Challenger. What a cool story!
I would name her Rachel Tabitha. Â R/T for short.
The family was taken to the hospital to be checked out and Gill said mom and baby are "doing great."Â Gill, however, will be in ICU for about a week.
So,,,,,, where did he get the hot water from?
@oodathunked  the radiator
Oh yeah.
i hear pizza hut wants to hire him as a delivery driver
@Phuzz  I'm not eating a pizza that sat on the passenger seat of that car!

@Dr. Rawdog Yeah, the circle of life.....
Wow, talk about being borne in the "fast lane", This will make for a great story to tell their daughter.
Congratulations, Mom and Dad! That's an exciting story for the baby book.Â
Next time...just call 911. That way you don't scare everyone else, including Mama.Â
@washcomom Or better yet leave for the hospital the second the labor starts.
@JLO My labor was 23 hours. I could have walked to the hospital with plenty of time left.
@Sundowner @Pvpbw @WendyTeagarden @JLO I too had three and my last one was 90 minutes... my first was 16 hours
@oodathunked That's a visual...!!
@oodathunked @Pvpbw Come back when you have actual experience and know what you're talking about, k?
What,,,,,,, like a duck?
@Pvpbw @WendyTeagarden @JLO I've had 3 also.  After the first, they just kinda fall out as you're walking.
@WendyTeagarden @JLO I have 3 babys, my longest labor was 1 hour 15 minutes. I just hate sitting around wasting time.
@JLO @washcomom Surprisingly, sometimes that's within minutes of delivery.  You're either not a woman or only have one child?
@Sundowner @JLO They didn't say if this was baby #1 or not. Doctors always tell the women "call me when labor contractions are 5 minutes apart". Yeah, right. Sometimes they speed up the timing in nothing flat, and other times, it is drawn out for hours. Longest labor for me was 7 hours. Shortest was 1 hour. Yep. Never can tell.Â
Way to go Dad!!!  Probably scared him, but he did a great job!! That's going to be a fun story to tell in the years to come.
Like he had a choice.
I hope it didn't screw up the car. I used to have a 71 Challenger, that's not what I did in it.    : ))
@old_dollor  He didn't have a choice, but he could have done it badly, he deserves to be congratulated.
All he had to do was put on a catchers mit and wait. I just hope he put something on the seat so he didn't hurt the car. (now that would have been a good job)
"Kid, why did your daddy name you Dodge?"
Well done, Dad!
@Playanekes ....because it is better than being called Route 512.
That's going to need some enzyme cleaner. Great story for for future barbecues though.
Congrats on delivering the baby in a place where it would've been more likely conceived.Â
Tomorrows to-do list....new car.
@UselessOpinion Just take it to the DIY car wash, open the doors and spray it out.  You boys never think of the obvious solutions....jeeesh.
@UselessOpinion Either that or a really deep cleaning by someone else.Â
That's a great story congrads to mom and dad.
@TAKEDOWNÂ Are you the same 'takedown' that used to comment on KPTV? Â Or KVAL?
Sure am Sundowner how's it going your way?
@TAKEDOWNÂ I didn't like outing my location, so I deleted my comment.

@TAKEDOWNÂ Hahaha! Â I can't recall if we were friend or foe.....something tells me foe but maybe only half the time. Â Was it KVAL and are you the guy from Prineville? Â ~~ VBG
