Subway worker fired over cheesesteak ruckus
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A customer's request to put ketchup on a Philly cheesesteak caused a ruckus in an Orlando Subway shop.
Sandwich maker Lawrence Ordone told customer Luis Martinez that Subway doesn't have ketchup when the order was placed on New Year's night. There are differing accounts on what happened next, but Orlando television station WFTV reports Ordone lost his job.
Ordone says he told the customer he's "never put ketchup on anybody's sandwich." He says Martinez got "mouthy." Martinez denies that, but Ordone admits he flew off the handle at that point.
WFTV reports Ordone shoved a chair to the side and told Martinez "fight me like a man."
Martinez called 911. Ordone left the building. No one was arrested. But now Ordone is looking for a new job.
I'm embarrassed to admit it but, I clicked on this story purely for the curiosity behind why that sandwich looks so gross. I expected said "ruckus" to be sensational, based on how lousy that grub looked! :)
Cheesesteak ruckuses in a state 3000 miles away is on the local news channel's website?
Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel for stories...
What does this picture have to do with anything.Â
Â
Come on, KATU. Someone said something to someone else and someone got mad. That's all. That's it.Â
Â
Snore.Â
the one in the picture looks like something my dog would cough up. that is the worst made sandwich i have ever seen.
Subway sandwiches are gross.
Whoever made that nasty looking sandwitch neede retrained OR fired!
the customer was insane because:
1. He was buying a cheesesteak from Subway. That is , in and of itself, sign of instability and complete lack of judgement.
2. Ketchup on a cheesesteak. Tomato sauce , ( or red gravy!), absoulutely but Ketchup. Somebody had to step up to save his soul.
3. from the picture Subway puts mayonnaise on a cheesesteak ? - reinforces #1

Â
 @Michael Carr If you ask for something they have, it seems they'll put it on.  I've even asked for my cheese to be arranged a certain way before, and they happily did it for me.  The key is to ask nicely, and not when there's a line of ten people behind you.
 @Michael Carr They put whatever the customer wants (except in this case ketchup)
The problem was he was dumb enough to be expecting something edible from a Subway in the first place.Â
Let me guess. Ordone was a transplant from New York or Jersey ... where the customer is NEVER right.
Â
 @SilverGuardian Let me guess.  You've never been to New York or New Jersey, but you have strong opinions about them anyway.
That customer deserves free sandwiches for life. I wonder if he can sue Subway over this matter.
 @Morticae  I have to assume that you are being sarcastic.
 @ClackaSam You'd assume wrong. There's no harm in asking for ketchup, and it's inexcusable for an employee to then threaten the customer and to further block the exit. In fact, that's actually illegal. The employee is insane and should be put on a watch list.
I say we ban all Ketchup... because this just shows that ketchup is plain evil..

i'd tell you the only good sub is across from the subway in long beach but then there would be lines at the good sub place and i hate lines.
The Subway I go to in Downtown Portland has ketchup. Â They asked me if I needed some with my Hashbrowns once. Â I didn't take it because I don't want any for those. Â
 @ab You might be a Philly!
Martinez was probably worried about being pushed in front of a subway.
 @The Resistance That sandwich looks like it could make some dangerous tracks.
 @swimbad ...or a skid-mark...;)
That's how a man fights in Florida. He calls 911.
Apparently Ordone didn't know that.
What he SHOULD have said was, "Fight me like a Redneck!"
Then the fur would be flyin'!
Â
LOL!
 @Mikey Better than saying "fight me like a George Zimmerman". I'm guessing that Florida's ground standing law would have protected the customer if he offed the sandwich maker.
If that photo is supposed to be a Philly Cheese sandwich, Subway needs to go to school, in Philadelphia. That's one of the most disgusting looking sandwiches I have ever seen! Not a great fan of Subway anyhow....
Ketchup on beef? Barbarous!
Sandwich nazi.
No sub for you!!
Â
Come back 1 year!!
@Kushfan Pete's is now serving ketchup.
Awesome. With the little snap caps?
@Kushfan in souflet cups like the fish sauce
Â
Real ketchup in squeeze bottles or little packets?
It looks like Martinez will have to ketchup on his sandwich later.
@swimbad Lettuce leaf him to think about his reaction to the abuse of the tomato
 @Pvpbw  @swimbad If he's not careful, he'll end up down at the mayo clinic.
@swimbad It seems everyone has a Beef with something these days
Sandwich artists can be so temperamental about their art.
"But now Ordone is looking for a new job."
Â
Bouncer at Cheetah's?
 @Kushfan well when you work for Sub standard wages you tend to have a never ending supply of help wanted employers. now if he was making $10 an hour he most likely would have let the customer pig out on ketchup however wrong that is.
 @Kushfan How about condiment sachet filler at the Heinz ketchup factory.
@Kushfan Do they serve Ketchup?
That has to be the most unappetizing picture of a subway sandwich I have ever seen. It has strengthened my resolve not to eat that crap.
 @nerdbyrd Nothing like a big pile of dead decaying processed flesh between two genetically engineered hybridized pieces of wheat bread chock full of indigestible gluten and gliadin proteins and infused with sodium azide toxin to wet the appetite. Yummy!
@JohnQ.Public @nerdbyrd Can I copy this and hang it in my car so I won't be tempted to run into a fast food place? This should do the trick!
 @Pvpbw  @nerdbyrd Sure why not! You can hang it on a few fast food restaurants doors too if you like.
Wow, where do you go after being fired from subway? I am just guessing here but it does not appear Ordone has much of a future.Â
 @I812 McDonalds, you go to McDonalds. after that you become a night clerk at the stickup mart.
I never knew Subway didn't have Ketchup...Or is it Catsup?? Any way, shows how often I have ever hit a Subway....
 @disgustedman The ones I have been to, DO. Maybe they call it Catchup and the server only knew it by that name. lol
Anyone who puts Ketchup on a philly cheesesteak deserves to be beaten senseless.....you just don't do that, I think it should be the 11th commandment.
@deejm2112 Anyone who would order a Philly Cheesesteak from Subway should be beaten senseless. I believe a Good Cheesesteak is a work of art, not to be copied by some pretender
 @Pvpbw  @deejm2112 You sir are 100% correct!
 @Pvpbw  @deejm2112 Duly noted Madam!
@deejm2112 make mine Madam
