Vultures rip parts from visitors' cars in Fla. Everglades

HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) - Visitors to parts of Everglades National Park are getting tarps and bungee cords to make their vehicles less delectable to vultures.
Migrating vultures have developed a habit of ripping off windshield wipers, sunroof seals, and other rubber and vinyl vehicle parts. Visitors to the park's Homestead and Flamingo entrances are loaned "anti-vulture kits" to protect their vehicles.
Park wildlife biologist Skip Snow tells The Miami Herald that the vultures are migrating as normal. It's just not clear why the birds are picking at parked cars and trucks. Park employees have tried to scare away the vultures, but nothing has worked.
Park Superintendent Dan Kimball says complaints about the vultures have declined since employees began distributing the tarps and bungee cords last year.

Ah, the rare "Bronx Vulture."Â Rarely seen that far south.
Thats what happens when you drive eco-friendly cars :)
Guilty, you can see it in his eyes.
Whoa, for a minute there, I thought this was a story about Connecticut lawyers....
Â
I have a nice Anti Vulture device. A .22 Co2 air pistol. with Verman rounds.. one shot to the head , heart or spine and its bye bye Vultures. I wonder, do vultures eat Vultures?
I was hoping that this story would be more like the dogs that ate the cop car.
Man I miss Florida in OFFBEAT.

@Kushfan Wow, I guess I am lucky to be alive.
@Kushfan You should be proud of me.....I didn't have to refer to the Urban Dictionary to get those comments.........
@Kushfan Azcentral has an offbeat headline: "Florida "tops" in offbeat stories of 2012" ( or something to that effect). But I ran out of credits and will have to look it up after the first.
 @WendyTeagarden  @Kushfan WTH? you didn't spring for the fee?Â
I believe that's 2 years in a row for Fla.
I think the vultures are on parole.

@WendyTeagarden Ah yes, Woofy got hungry.. I remember that from a year ago lol.. the officer didn't shoot the dog either. What is really sad... That means tax payers paying for crappy cars with suped up engines..
It's seems so idiotic to go to a National Park that is to preserve nature and to allow us to see nature, which is the only attraction to that particular park, and then complain about the nature. That's their world you are entering! Come into my house and complain just once about me and you'll be shown the door, immediately! Well folks, that's their house and if you don't like the way they act in their house, then don't go there! We need to start giving wild animals the respect we demand for ourselves when we enter their homes, that being any wilderness area.
is that sammy
You can get a lot of money for stolen car parts.Â
Maybe they just wanna buy some fresh food for a change..
"Park employees have tried to scare away the vultures, but nothing has worked." try a bullet..
@LostSoul I see why you call yourself "LostSoul". Those birds belong there, you don't! "try a bullet" Yeah, I guess you would like to see all wildlife killed so humans wouldn't be bothered by them anymore. (which is an interpretation of what you were saying) Vultures play an important role in this world by eating the dead animals before their flesh rots and develops bacterias that kill off other living animals. P.S. Human's are also one type of those animals!
@MickRoh  @LostSoul I think a tree is missing its hug
@beernpizza Vultures are protected in Oregon! Killing one could lead to a $10,000 fine or up to 1 year in jail. I hunt, fish and served in the military. I burn lots of wood in my fireplace. I eat meat every day. I just hate it when idiots want to waste an animals life for no real reason! If you're going to kill it, then use it! Hug trees, my a_ _! Â
People shouldn't drive dead cars.
