COOS BAY, ORE. - Those who enjoy camping out on the beach at Bastendorff will have to look for another place to spend their days, as a restriction order has been placed on the area.

Starting Wednesday, Sept. 7, campers will no longer be allowed to stay in the area for more than 24 hours in any 14-day period, a change from the former 14-day camping limit in a 28-day period.

After 24 hours, campers must leave the site, remove all personal belongings and cannot camp on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands within a two-mile radius of Bastendorff Beach for 14 days.

Word spread fast around the campsite on Tuesday - many people had already left the area.

BLM explains the change is necessary to reduce criminal activity, protect public safety and eliminate sanitation problems associated with long-term residential camping at the beach.

Any person who violates the restriction order is subject to fines and imprisonment.
