PORTLAND, Ore. - With a sour economy shrinking everyone's budgets, renting an RV and taking off on an adventurous road trip is one alternative to think of while planning your vacation.

But what exactly is the price tag for this kind of a trip?  Are there hidden costs you need to be aware of before you take the plunge?  Is this type of a trip right for you?

Travel expert Pauline Frommer recently rented a motorhome for a trip to Arizona and talked to CNN about the pros and cons of RV travel - and most importantly, how much you can expect to shell out. Watch the video for her tips.

Also, if you plan on taking your kids along, you'll want to check out Lessons from the Road: RVing with Kids, an article written for the magazine by KATU's Shellie Bailey-Shah.  In it, she talks about the lessons she learned when she took her family on a 20-day trip to visit 10 national parks.
