Hoodoo sees its biggest opening in a decade

SANTIAM PASS, Ore. (AP) - Hoodoo Mountain Resort in Santiam Pass had its biggest opening weekend in at least a decade, thanks to a big snowfall.

Hoodoo Marketing Manager Crystal Pizzola did not have attendance numbers Sunday afternoon, but she said good weather and a Thanksgiving weekend opening had the ski area packed when it opened Saturday. Pizzola said it was the biggest opening in ten years.

Three of the resort's five chairlifts were running on opening weekend. Pizzola said the ski area is closed Monday through Thursday, and will re-open on Friday.

Central Oregon's largest ski area, Mount Bachelor, officially opened on November 18. Bachelor recorded a 49-inch snow base and 41 inches mid-mountain on Sunday.

Mount Hood Meadows remains closed due to the closure of Highway 35, which sustained severe damage during a recent storm.
