PORTLAND, Ore. - As the holiday weekend approaches, state park officials would like to remind folks that fireworks, including sparklers, are banned in state parks and on Oregon's beaches at all times, including holidays.

"Fireworks can hurt people, cause wildfires, harm wildlife and create litter and debris," said Jeff Farm, ocean shores manager for the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

Only fireworks managed as part of 4th of July community events with pre-approved permits are allowed.
