WALLOWA COUNTY - Gov. Ted Kulongoski joined a crowd of around 150 this week to celebrate the opening of Oregon's newest state park.

Iwetemlaykin State Heritage Area is located just north of Wallowa Lake, adjacent to the Old Chief Joseph Gravesite and Cemetery. The park features a small pond and trails winding through meadows and hills.

The park is the sixth new park opened under the governor's Park a Year initiative. Other parks opened under the project include Sunset Beach, Stub Stewart, Fort Yamhill, Thompson's Mills and Crissey Field.
