This past Sunday we spent a wonderful day on the Nehalem River. The sun was out, not a cloud in the sky and the breeze on the water was warm and inviting. We all would have been happy just to take that memory home with us, but it only improved as the day went on. Uncle Jason took us to some special spots on the river which held true to their reputations. Early in the trip, Emma hooked a17 lb Chinook and fought most of it herself (with some help from her uncle). Just as we got it to the boat, the reel broke, so we were lucky to get a picture of her catch. Being the nature lover she is, she returned it to the river, but was so excited to have caught it in the first place. Later in the afternoon, her brother Liam hooked his first Chinook as well. Liam’s fish was a little bigger then his sisters (approx 25 lbs) but he fought it all on his own and was so proud of his accomplishment. He was using a family favorite called the Blue Bomber – a lure used by 2 of his cousins to catch their first big fish as well. Just as his sister did, Liam returned his beautiful catch to the River and couldn't wait to share the story and photos with his friends at school the next day. It was so amazing to have both brother and sister make such big catches on the same day.
