GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — A young wolf believed to have killed livestock in Eastern Oregon has been trapped and released with a radio collar, so that wildlife officials can keep track of it.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife trapped the wolf Sunday in the Keating Valley area of Baker County. That's just a few miles from Oregon's first photo-documented wolf attack on livestock.

Department spokeswoman Michelle Dennehey says in these early stages of wolves moving into Oregon, the department will not be killing those that attack livestock, though that option remains if attacks persist.

She says the radio collar will trigger alarms to scare the wolf away from livestock.

The federal endangered species listing for wolves was lifted in far Eastern Oregon on Monday, but state protections remain.
