PORTLAND, Ore. - Aspiring space explorers gathered for their very own take-off in Northeast Portland on Friday.

Kids from "Champions Science Adventures Summer Camps” were there to test their handmade rockets. Their end results were pretty impressive — the rockets can climb up to 200 feet in the air at speeds of 50 to 60 miles an hour.

We talked to one science whiz who says his rocket he named the "Mega Blaster" makes him want to shoot for the moon.

“I’d get really excited,” said camp participant Arthur Feidelson. “I would watch the rocket launch and I would probably want to be on it.”

More than 15 young space explorers took part in the event.
