Minks let loose from Astoria fur farm
By Associated PressPORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A fur industry group is offering up to $100,000 for information leading to the conviction of those who released mink this year from six Northwest fur farms. On Friday someone broke into the Ylipelto's Fur Farm in Astoria, opening 1,500 mink pens. About 400 animals remain missing. Fur Commission USA Director Teresa Platt says 35 mink were found dead, some run over by cars but most killed by large dogs. Animal-rights extremists, including the Animal Liberation Front, have claimed responsibility via communiques to the North American Animal Liberation Press Office. Another Oregon release came in April when a group opened 53 mink pens in Jefferson. In September a group identifying itself as the ALF opened 215 mink pens at a fur farm in Scio. |
