Invalid signatures derail foes of MAX Vanc. light rail extension

VANCOUVER, Wash. - Opponents of extending Portland’s MAX light rail line into Vancouver, Washington have lost a battle to get the issue on the ballot.
    
The Clark County Auditor's Office found that more than two-thirds of the signatures turned in were not valid.

They said some were duplicates and others were from people who weren't registered voters.
    
The group opposed to the light rail extension from Portland is trying to prohibit any Vancouver city resources from being used to extend the MAX line into the city.

Signature gatherers have until May 3 to try and collect about 2,300 more valid signatures to get the measure before voters, according to The Columbian newspaper.
