State Sen. Alan Olsen, R-Canby, is looking for a way to help a Gladstone man keep his pet Siberian lynx.

“I don’t know if we’ll be able to find a solution,” Olsen told KATU Thursday. “But we are definitely looking at options.”

Olsen said that he saw the story of Patrick Clark, a Marine veteran on KATU and decided he wanted to see if he could help the man.

“I saw the story over the weekend and on Monday we went to work,” said Olsen.

Before 2009, it was legal for Clark to keep the lynx. The pet helps him relieve his post-traumatic stress disorder, he said. But then lawmakers changed the rules.

Olsen said they are looking at a variety of options including legislation and amending Department of Agriculture rules that would allow for special exceptions when it comes to keeping exotic animals.

“We want to find a way to allow for a happy ending,” Olsen said.
