Washington voters approve charter schools initiative

SEATTLE (AP) — Washington voters have narrowly approved an initiative that clears the way for up to 40 charter schools to be opened in the state over the next five years.
Initiative 1240 has clung to a narrow lead as more ballots have been counted following Tuesday's election.
This is the fourth time the proposal has been on the ballot in Washington state, where voters rejected charter schools in 1996, 2000 and 2004.
Supporters say the charter proposal would offer new choices for struggling kids and their families. Opponents say charters have a mixed track record in other states and they would take away money from regular public schools.
Proponents of charter schools raised more than $10 million to promote the idea, including $3 million from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.

Awesome for Washington! Soon they will also learn that you don't need a union to educate a child.
It is good that the state of Washington has joined Oregon in regards to allowing charter schools. My kids have gone to an excellent one for the last 6 years and I am quite satisfied.Â

The opponents to charter schools are the wasteful public school unions.
They guy in the picture has really terrible finger nails.. and should probably be seeking help for whatever infection he's got on his right ring finger.

Be thankfull Washington hasn't registered to Secede from the union
Oh Dear God NO! Well, I have a family friend who will now be losing his job at the schools.
@lee986321 What does he do and why is he losing his job?
@HuskyKMA He is a janitor at one of the schools, there is also a lot more "Pork" that has been added. I'll talk with my mom, she knows a great deal more on this subject and I can also get it straight from the School workers Mouth to. Needless to say..it is not a good thing, also something about Taxes being tacked on.
