With Election Day looming, many voters face post-election blues
PORTLAND, Ore. – Pam Peck and Sharon Bishop are doing the same thing on behalf of two very different teams.
“Mostly we’re letting people know they need to vote by tomorrow night at eight o’clock,” said Peck, a Democrat.
“Making calls to voters to encourage them to get their ballots returned by 8 p.m. tomorrow,” said Republican Sharon Bishop.
Both women are deeply invested as campaign volunteers, and both can smell victory on Election Night.
“That’s where I plan to be tomorrow night, on the winning side,” said Bishop.
“I absolutely think President Obama is going to win,” Peck said.
But losing, whoever does, won’t be easy. Nearly half of the country is going to be disappointed.
"If you're too invested in an outcome that is beyond your control, then it may be stressful for you," said clinical psychologist Dr. Tony Farrenkopf.
"It's like athleticism, where you train for a match or train for a tournament," he said. "The tournament itself is not under your control. Your training is under your control."
Farrenkopf said he's seen post-election sadness before. He says it's normal to feel sad after an election, but if it starts affecting your daily routine, that's how you know it's gone too far.
“Sometimes you’re the windshield, sometimes you’re the bug,” said Bishop. “You just have to pick yourself up and move on.”
“Obviously when you lose, it doesn’t feel good. But you’ve got to pick yourself up and look at the positives of what happened,” said Peck.
Well...win or lose, tomorrow we change focus and start complaining about the winners!
 @deejm2112 Romney Derangement Syndrome
Reality Check: If Obama is elected, there will be 12 million jobs created in America over the next four years, Alternatively, if Romney is elected, there will be 12 million jobs created in America over the next four years. (Sources: Gartner group projections (Oct 2012), Pew Research Report (Oct, 2012), Heritage Foundation Report (Sept 2012) ). Simply put, the President is totally irrelevant to the economy and job creation in the absence of a major public works effort (think the stimulus times twenty). Congress has more effect, but not very much.
Â
The sun will rise Wednesday regardless of the outcome of the election. And America will still be the greatest nation on earth.
Â
Until the partisanship by left and right destroy it.
@ShallowEnder Sorry America is not the greatest nation in the world. I know its only a T.V. show but it is factual...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEyUWKJFER8
@ShallowEnder Ah ya the president may have little to do with it but the people that put in charge of the rest of the government does.
Â
For example the idiot Obama put in the EPA that got fired because of his outrageous attacks on companies and replaced by another idiot.
Â
If your guy puts in anti-business people in all the cabinet positions you can't really expect business to boom...
@ShallowEnder I agree with your second sentence.
Â
But, to say that the president is "totally irrelevant" to the economy is to oversimplify. The GI Bill was not a public works program and yet it transformed our economy (as did much of the New Deal). I won't go into whether it was for good or bad (other than to say it was for the good!), but the effect on our economy cannot be called irrelevant. Neither would have happened without the president's support.
@ShallowEnder You think so? If the people that have the "Big Money" to invest in projects like building and R&D don't have confidence in the leader of the free world then they will keep their money safe and offshore. The POTUS has lots to do with the way the economy works. I do agree with your last sentence though. It seems that is the way it's been for the last 5 years...
Blues? Try a country in a deep dark depression if Obama wins.
@TimBurr Ask the people of Mass. how they feel about Romney in 4 years they went from 29th in job creation to 47th. He didn't increase taxes he raised fees,a lot of them, register a gun from a one time $25.00 fee to $125.00 per gun and $25.00 every 3 years, get a creamation from $30.00 to $125.00 bridge tolls, road tolls, garbage fees ,automobile registrations the list goes on and on. There is a reason why he didn't run for a 2nd term his approval rating after 4 years was 30% George Bushes at that time was 28% remember how that ended. Obama got you out of a deep dark depression Romney will put you right back into it.
@Salmon Breath  @TimBurr You are very correct sir.
@TimBurr Your extremist comments are one of many things wrong with this country's political landscape, it's simply not true. The reality bus just pulled up however I doubt you'd take a seat.
Â
You're the type that would rather sit a whine about what they don't like instead of accepting the way things are and working together to make it better, I fire people like you.
@deejm2112 You INITIALLY electing an extremist is what started it all.
@deejm2112 As an owner of my own business, politics is not allowed in my shop. Firing someone for their political beliefs is absurd. How rude.Â
@MrAchilles  @deejm2112 BTW...I manage a remote location for corporate, we care more about how we can make a drinking game out of election coverage than who's voting for who, there is no politics here, not even office politics.
@MrAchilles  @deejm2112 I did not imply that, how rude of you to assume it. I would never fire someone for political beliefs, however, if I had someone on my team whining and spurting lies and spreading dissent within my team, they are out of there.
@deejm2112  @TimBurr Those of us who actually like our country and believe it already was the greatest place on earth not something that needed to be transformed into the greatest place like Obama does take it a little more seriously. Although another 4 years of Obama won't have much affect on me directly except to likely continue to delay any chance of retirement it could have a drastic affect on my kids if he continues to run the debt up another 6T or more.
@FreedomRocks  @TimBurr Debt goes way up during a recession (as history shows) and down when times are good. A recession the size of the great meltdown (which was actually bigger than the great depression if measured by % of wealth lost) would naturally incur a bigger debt.
Â
Most economists argued the gvt did not spend enough to generate growth.
Â
Yes, getting debt under control is very important, so it makes perfect sense to bulk up the military spending at cut taxes /sarcasm. What little anyone knows of Mitts plan does not add up.

@Festivus You first Jack. PLEASE. Do the world an immense favor.
@Festivus Utopia no more buddy boy. Get ready for a BLUNT, very BLUNT, fracture to your F'ed-up cranial way of looking at things.
Â
WELCOME TO THE NEW WAY OF DOING BUSINESS. Better use QUINN'S GUN
@TimBurr Whatssa matter?  All that nervous sphincter action got your sense of humor out to wash?
Our campaigning has become incompatible with governing. This Presidential election has once again demonstrated the disturbing trend of short-term thinking in the campaigns by both major parties. Each party casts the other as not only mistaken (which one would expect) but also evil (which is not only false but also self-destructive.) If a candidate spends a year or more on the campaign trail calling his opponent every bad name in the book and doing everything but openly saying that opponent is evil, is it any wonder these clowns can't work together in the best interests of our nation?
I am upset I couldn't vote; I didn't vote in the last 2 federal elections and so I am now "cancelled." Â I have to re-register and I didn't do this so cannot vote. Â What a crappy election law, its a total scam of a system! Â
@portlandborn83 Just speak in Spanish and likely they will let you vote anyway...
I'm going to be the windshield tomorrow. So glad it will be over soon, I'm tired.
Almost time for the crying to begin...funny thing is that all those freeloaders will be just as SOL as those who cannot afford to pay for everybody's health care Tax in a few short yrs.......It will be too late to draw and quarter all those involved in fostering this on the US taxpayers when the Economy collapses....
@Glenn Pierce OMFG we're all gonna die!!!
B HOÂ ...... out the door in four
Â
Its the lefts turn to be depressed on Wednesday
@kramr Oh, and I love your handle. Wasn't Kramr the guy who kept screaming the N-word at the top of his lungs in the club, when people in the audience were giving him a hard time? So appropriate for you.
@badcat @kramr It's always about race with you 0bama Libs isn't it? Oh, if you don't vote for 0bama (The Socialist Weasel) then you're a racist.
@badcat @kramr  That was mean.   Wont really matter who wins, we will all be in the same boat trying to stay afloat. Hey I made a rhyme.. lol
@MrAchilles  @badcat Yep, your a poet and didn't know it! lol
@badcat    actually has nothing to do with that character just a jumble of my first name and last inital
@kramr Krammit Really, nice to meetcha!
 @kramr We'll see!! ;-)
Â
It seems likely that Obama is going to win a second term. And I can't wait until this time tomorrow night, when the conservative BS changes from "one term only" to "you're gonna get what you asked for" because yes we will!! Continued economic recovery, women's rights, affordable health care, wrapping up the Bush wars, federal disaster relief, and all those pesky things that an advanced society needs from competent government. Obama's second term is going to put us back on top, where we were after Clinton, and before Bush drove us off a cliff.
Â
You know what would be beyond awesome? If Obama didn't win the popular vote, but still won the Presidency. Damn, that would be so sweet......  =D
@badcat Wow that must be some good crack your smoking it really puts a tint on reality that most of us are not seeing!!!
@badcat Think of the mess your chosen one is going to inherit this time
Almost time for the crying to begin...funny thing is that all those freeloaders will be just as SOL as those who cannot afford to pay for everybody's health care Tax in a few short yrs.......It will be too late to draw and quarter all those involved in fostering this on the US taxpayers when the Economy collapses from Obamacareless.....
@Glenn Pierce The SKY IS FALLING!! We're all gonna DIE!!! Obama crossed the streams!
@badcat I suppose one of the few flaws of democracy is that people as stupid as you are allowed to vote.
@Derek2mk  Does not matter who side your on, that has nothing to do with who you are as a person.   And does not necessarily mean someone is dumb. The proper word I prefer to use is uninformed. And maybe that is mean as well, but it is the only excuse I can come up with to defend Odumber voters.  I have done my research and come to the conclusion neither of these candidates deserve my vote. They can both go to hell in a hand basket. Both are evil and not worth a damn. Yes my hatred for Obama is much, and I would love to see him out of office.. but at the end of the day, it really wont matter.  If Romney wins, fine, if Odumber wins fine... our system wont change and that is a fact.
@Derek2mk While badcat's comments suggest hyper-partisanship and an unwillingness to acknowledge information that doesn't support her preconceived conclusions, these do not establish that she's stupid. While some of the comments she has made here can fairly be described as foolish, rude and needlessly provocative, none of this establishes stupidity.
@Derek2mk Oh, you're clever, that's a good one. You know what's a bigger flaw? YOUR VOTE DOESN'T MATTER!! Haha!! The 3 electoral votes from Oregon are going to Obama, and there's nothing you can do about it. And even if you could, it still wouldn't matter. Put that in your pipe and I seriously hope that he only wins the electoral vote (he's going to get the popular vote too, but still) --- it would be beyond wonderful to hear all the conservatives crying about that little piece of "injustice" because those of us with above average IQs have a rough idea of how much better the country, and in fact the entire world, would be if it hadn't worked like that in 2000, and the sense of revenge would be beyond sweet. }=)
@badcat  @MissLissaJ Get off the crack badcat what does a child molester have to do with anything?
Grose! and ewwwww... that man should rot in hell! Â
@MissLissaJ People like YOU scare me, because you think that Sandusky's victims were at fault and complicit in their own abuse. I'm not going to argue with someone who blames child rape victims for what happened to them. You're not capable of having a sane conversation.
@HenryBowman  Insignificance is easier to digest when it's exaggerated. Now take your pill and go to sleep.
Â
@badcat  @Derek2mk Wow, you're an absolute jerk off. Win or lose tomorrow--there are bad winners as well as bad losers. You're obviously going to be one or the other. People like you scare me--because you're in the car egging the driver on over the cliff, while the rest of us sane people are screaming in terror and trying to get out before we crash.
@badcat Do you mean seven electoral votes? Or were you going to use the other four to prop up your dismal IQ?
@badcat Well, I would relate the cuts in healthcare that I have endured under Obama and will undoubtedly continue to endure in greater amounts in the next four years but being a senior, this is apparently part of the grand plan Why would Obama divert over $700 BILLION from Medicare if he weren't hoping we would go away and die like we should? Sarah Palin was right. Obama death panels are real.
@Nobody  @badcat Don't worry, Mittens thinks the private sector can do better than Medicare, funny thing is, it amounts to deregulation, and we all know who wins when that happens.....ahem, shareholders and CEO's.
@FreedomRocks  @Nobody  @badcat Abolish FEMA and we'll how those folks make out.
Â
Personally I think our military would should be more closely involved in disaster recovery instead of overseas.
@deejm2112  @Nobody  @badcat Yes and ask all those people back east how well FEMA is doing in helping them out. The government has a long track record of incompetents and giving them any more control of my life is not something I will ever do willingly...
@Nobody  You're a fool. Thanks to Obama, you'll still have your Medicare for the next four years.
@Nobody No, they aren't. And you are so regurgitating FoxNews BS about diverting funds from Medicare. But I don't have to argue with you, because tomorrow he's going to win a second term! Hooray for truth and facts!! =D
@badcat  @Nobody and sharia law, or maybe militia law, and more taxes,Â
@badcat Both sides are hypocrties. And no, it's isn't just Fox News criticizing President Obama's inconsistency with respect to medicare cuts. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/11/obama-biden-now-sing-different-tune-on-bushs-medicare-savings/
But then again, your comments suggest that you're not interested in information that doesn't support your preconceived conclusions.
@badcat Recovering economy? The unemployment rate is higher than when Obama took office. Please, step away from the cool aid.
@mchammer He inherited a flushing toilet from his predecessor and things are infinitely better than they would be if McCain had won. Not to mention that the pubes in Congress have tried to prevent him from making any progress, blocking his initiatives at every turn so they could say that he hasn't accomplished what he said he would. Sacrificing the future of America to ensure a single term? Should be grounds for treason, for most of the Republican Congressional leadership.
Â
Oh, and it's spelled "Kool-Aid" but I don't expect conservatives to know the spelling or even the origin of that expression. But you're going to need whiskey more than Kool-Aid, because you're going to have a heck of a night tomorrow!! =)
@badcat  @kramr No recovery on my end restaurants are empty companies still laying people off your delusional...
@badcat  @mchammer Well I am a conservative and the origin of the expression of "Kool-Aid" is from your buddy Jim Jones,Â
@badcat   """""There has been much progress under Obama."""""
Ya, median income down over $4k, 43 straight months of UE north of 8%, fewer people working today than when B HO took office......... If this is what ou call progress, you can have it.....
Â
"""""recession was much less severe than it would have been,""""
you have no way of proving that......
Â
"""""Â like a caged dog on Romney's car-rack,"""""
Â
Better in Mittens crate than on B HO's plate..... yes B HO ate dogs.
Â
For the sake of our country, I hope you are very depressed come Wednesday.
Â
Â
@QuandoQuandoQuando @badcat  More like the POTUS
@badcat Your reference to Republicans as "pubes" is childish and doesn't reflect well on you nor does it help the credibility of your comment.
@kramr  @badcat That crying baby avatar will be you tomorrow.
@kramr There has been much progress under Obama. The economy is recovering and the recession was much less severe than it would have been, not to mention that women's rights have been protected, the federal government is not being stripped of its powers to protect the citizens (ahem, Sandy), we're out of Iraq, health care has been drastically improved, and this country is in a much better place for most people than it was 4 years ago. But you'll never see it, so why bother trying to point out the obvious? On Wednesday you can pack up your anti-American crap rhetoric, like a caged dog on Romney's car-rack, and drive that bandwagon out of town. It's going to be so uplifting to get a break from the republican lies, even for just a couple of months.
@badcat @mchammer  """"He inherited a flushing toilet from his predecessor"""""
Â
making excuses FOUR YEARS after being elected only proves what an epic failure B HO.
B HO has no new ideas, 8% unemployment is the new norm with this president. god I hope for change tomorrow.
Â
BTW, Reagan "inherited" quite a mess and by nov84  unemployment was down from a high north of 11% to the very low 7% and Reagan's  economy had a growth rate THREE TIMES what B HO's economy is.
