Kitzhaber seeks guidance on paid speaking

SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Gov. John Kitzhaber has asked the Government Ethics Commission whether he can accept fees for delivering health-policy speeches.
A lawyer for the governor's office raised the question in a letter last month, and Kitzhaber's staff made it public on Thursday. The commission is expected to consider the request at a meeting next week.
A spokesman for Kitzhaber says the governor routinely gets paid speaking offers but has not accepted any during his time in office.
Kitzhaber is a former emergency room physician and state legislator, and he served as governor from 1995 to 2003. He gave paid health-care speeches before running for a third term as governor in 2010.
The governor's office says Kitzhaber would not accept fees from anyone with a financial interest in Oregon legislation.

must be filling some promises made to someone, just ask the gillnet fleet
Just one more indication that John doesn't know right from wrong!
I'm wondering if Katslobber will run again at the end of this term...Multnomah elected hime 3 times already...he should be a shoe-in for at least 1 if not more terms.Â
 @flyingtime God help us!
Amusing. If one just looks at the headline, I would say that Taxhaber needs no advice about public speaking----he spouts the Liberal Socialist party line just fine!
"Government Ethics Commission". Isn't "government ethics" an oxymoron? It used to be people knew right from wrong and what was ethical or not ethical. Pretty easy for me. If you are serving in the office Governor K., then you shouldn't be accepting paid speaking appearances. You can do that after you leave office.
Â
See, I didn't have to have a commission figure it out.
He's in this for his own legacy and self aggrandizement .
Wait a minute. You mean that there are people out there who are willingly throwing away perfectly good money just to hear Dr. No talk?  Throw it my way, and I won't say a word. It would be a win - win deal.
@theobserver As long as you share with me!
What a self-centered idiot. Â Tell you what John, in light of your failure as a Doctor, Husband and Governor, why don't you retire and make all the paid speeches that you want....you just might be good at that. Â Your embarrassing yourself AND the State by your decisions. Â
Are peering in here John? while voted for you years ago, when you "quit" abstained from a third vote, Your a trailblazer, we like that, your a wannabe rodeo guy, we shrug, a wannabe sportsman, well your trying...you have the office, why not use it so's you can be a "real" swashbuckler, and do something for Oregon? All this finger in the wind stuff to see how much cash you can ring in? Â Kitzch...where you got to ask? that's a moral failure in and of itself John, you make a mockery of the office, by all means go for it, others would, but then, don't think your above anyone gobbling from the trough, Â hell John, you may have a future in Mexico where public office is often a public piggy bank, could be you will have lots of comfort with many politicos...or you pull your boots up and roll your sleeves up and be a governor we thought you to be...just thought you might like to know, and yeah you could donate the monies to a charity, but it is still tacky, stick, be a true cowboy, stick to task, deliver John, or simply quit as you did before, betray us, hell you done it before, to us to Sharon, so you think on it. More than anything, we want to see you redeemed to be the man were proud of.
Here's a simple answer for King Kitzhaber. Resign your position and then you can get paid speaking fees whenever you want. If you still want to be governor you shouldn't have time to go around to paid speaking engagements. Pretty simple Kitzhaber.
Are you guys kidding me? Â Oregon loves this man, we have elected him twice. Â His first term he set up Oregon's health plan to be a model for the nation. Â Me, well I like the fact that he refuses to pull the switch. Â Love Ya Kitzzy.
@czullo Oregon loves this man? You mean Multnomah County loves this man.
@czullo  """""Multnomah and lane counties love this man, we have elected him twice. """""
Fixed it for ya....... :)
IMHO, no cashing in until out of office. If he still wants to give speeches then its like like when a company pays an employee for jury duty and the money the employee gets goes to the company.
So if the good Dr. ReRun wants to give speeches..... The fees go to the state until Dr. ReRun is out of office.
Perhaps he should just give up his office to give speeches to those that would listen. He is not willing to do the job of the governor and uphold the Oregon laws. Speeches just might be his strong point with all of his self righteousness. He seems to feel that his will is more important than the law or the will of the Oregon people.
