Multnomah County Republicans raffle off AR-15 again

PORTLAND, Ore. -- It’s a controversial, but popular, way to raise money: a rifle raffle.

Multnomah County Republicans are raffling off their third AR-15 in less than a year. Party leaders said they nearly sold out of the 500 tickets during the last two raffles, and they expect the same thing this time around.

The thousands of dollars support Republican candidates in the county and go toward day-to-day operations.

“This is not at all, in any way, meant to offend or have any sort of bad connotation with it,” Multnomah County Republican Party Vice Chairperson Anne Marie Gurney said. “It is truly to celebrate that we are Americans, we have Second Amendment rights, and we have people who have fought and died to have that right.”

The raffle tickets are selling now for $10 each or 12 for $100. The drawing will be during the Lincoln Day Dinner on Feb. 15.

The winner will be required to pass a background check.
