Public testimony on Thursday about Nike tax legislation

SALEM, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon legislative committee will hear public testimony Thursday on a bill sought by apparel giant Nike.
Gov. John Kitzhaber has called the full Legislature into special session Friday to consider legislation giving Kitzhaber authority to lock-in a key provision of the tax code for Nike.
Nike said it would expand in Oregon if the state would agree that the company's taxes will continue to be calculated based solely on its Oregon sales. Before 2005, Oregon included the value of in-state payroll and property when calculating taxes for multi-state corporations like Nike.
The newly created Joint Special Committee on Economic Development will meet on Thursday at 9 a.m. in Salem.

This is what Wal-Mart does..Nike does not produce it's products here in the US so why would any county or city give them a tax break?
Â
.When I lived in Colorado Nike tried to get the City of Golden to allow them to build a huge facility on top of one of the Mesa's - it would have killed the look of Golden for one and having the Coors Plant cover almost 20 miles of the Golden area...residents were not happy. We launched a campaign "Save The Mesa" and we won.
This is extortion and it is illegal!Â
@ocencaw .......unions use extortion and they're legal. Ironic isn't it !
If you give a tax break to one company you need to give it to all. Seriously how can this be legal?. I am sure the Supreme Court would think otherwise. And BTW, isnât this catering to corporate greed? Hypocrisy is alive and will from the Governor.Â

Â
I am willing to cater to corporate greed for my own greed. I am willing to give tax breaks that in the end generate more money for the state.
Â
But if they DON'T generate more money for the state, I am equally willing to see them go away.
