Embattled GOP Rep. Akin stays in Mo. Senate race

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Embattled GOP Congressman Todd Akin has made good on his promise to stay in Missouri's U.S. Senate race despite calls by top Republicans to quit following his comments about rape.
The final deadline for candidates to remove their names from the Missouri ballot passed Tuesday as Akin began a statewide bus tour. Akin is trying to unseat Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.
Akin has repeatedly apologized since saying during a television interview in August that women's bodies have ways of averting pregnancy in cases of what he called "legitimate rape."
Top Republicans, including presidential nominee Mitt Romney, have urged him to drop out. He's also lost backing from the national GOP.
But he has the state party's support, and former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich joined Akin at a fundraiser Monday.

I think he wants bubba to rape him so he can tell the difference and ....
If he likes it....Â
The new republiCON party.....taliban USA !
Everybody please remember that Todd Akin's only real offense was being honest about what he & his political party think of women's rights in this country. Everyone else in the GOP basically sign-on to the same sensibilities that led Akin to say what he said about "legitimate rape" and their history of personhood amendments and no exceptions for rape in their anti-bortion bills over the past two years speak volumes to this dangerous trend... ...does anybody else "get" the message behind this new push not to even put in place exceptions in cases of rape? The message is quite simple: They're going out of their way to cater to what's left of their base-- a radicalized rabid group of religious fanatics . According to this contingent in their base, when advocates of women's right cite cases of rape & incest, we should not believe them because that is an excuse for keeping abortion safe & legal. The sensibility behind all this is truly vile & just plain dangerous. It's none of their business anyway!
thanks for the win. can't believe some pubes are in the same boat with this right conservative nut job   Â
Legitimate Moron.
Akin, go away. With friends like you, we conservatives don't need any enemies.
Â
just like a pube- short memories. you don't remember him and ryan signing off on the exact same bills that this sad excuse, akin believes in?
@last boyscout It's ryans plan as well..
Some people just don't know when to quit and move on!
So this Bible Belt state's GOP party still supports this idiot.. Not surprising.
feline, it won't be so bad if there wasn't other pubes that believe what he believes, like lying ryanÂ
Another career politician. He has been "working" since 1988 (house of rep Missouri). Well its time to find a new job, hopefully nothing to do with biology.Â
