The USDA’s new guidelines suggest people eat fish twice a week. We’re lucky to live in Oregon where we can eat local seafood year round. Oregon seafood is caught from Astoria in the north, to Brookings in the south and it provides an economic backbone to many coastal communities. You can get Dungeness Crab, Albacore tuna, salmon, soles, pink shrimp, and a dozen other species caught off the Oregon coast. You can buy Oregon seafood fresh, frozen, canned and smoked. Expose your kids to seafood at an early age and they will love it for a lifetime. It’s fun to learn about Oregon seafood as a family and cook with it together!
- Albacore can live up to 12 years and can grow to 80 pounds in the open ocean. Canned tuna is a good source of essential nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, high quality protein, selenium and Vitamin D.
