PORTLAND, Ore. - Major League Soccer's top boss predicted Monday the Timbers could quickly become a model MLS franchise.

League commissioner Don Garber is in town for the official groundbreaking of PGE Park on Tuesday. He said he’s confident MLS will succeed in Portland.

“It’s a soccer town. People love the game,” Garber said. “The support that they have for the Timbers now while they’re in the minor leagues, frankly, rivals a lot of the support that we have in Major League Soccer today. So I would put it into – if we do it right, if the ownership group continues to do everything well that they’ve been doing - the corporations in town and the political folks in town continue to support it – it could be one of the best markets in Major League Soccer without doubt.”

KATU’s Sports Director, Katy Brown, had a chance to talk with Garber one-on-one. Watch the full interview by clicking on the above video tab or here.
