Runner found dead after charity race ends

SANDY, Ore. - Heat was suspected in the death of a 34-year-old runner who died Saturday while participating in a 10K charity event in Sandy.

Organizers of the third-annual Noah's Run, which raises money for maternal-fetal medical research at Legacy Emanuel Hospital, went looking for Slieght Manivong when the Portland man didn't return.

After calling police, a search and rescue member of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office found Manivong just after 4 p.m. His body was a half-mile off the race path.

Police said there is no evidence of foul play; they speculate that the 100-degree heat led to Manivong's death.

"The heat can do some terrible things to people," said Sgt. David Lundervold of the Sandy Police Department.
