This is a press release from the Portland Beavers:

PORTLAND, Ore. – Cesar Ramos beat Valerio De Los Santos in a tight pitching duel, Craig Stansberry hit his sixth home run and Peter Ciofrone logged an RBI single to extend his hitting streak to 18 games as the Portland Beavers defeated the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 2-0 in front of 6,196 Monday afternoon at PGE Park.

The Beavers, who were limited to four hits, have now won six of their last seven games and, at 53-47 on the season, have matched their best record through 100 games since the team returned to the Pacific Coast League in 2001.

Portland improved to 3-3 in shutout games this season and moved to 8-3 against the Sky Sox by taking three of four games against its division rivals in the series.

Ramos, who has won consecutive starts for the first time since mid-May, tossed six scoreless innings, scattering six hits and a walk while striking out a season-high eight batters.

Ramos (9-7) teamed with four relievers in the combined, seven-hit shutout, including Edwin Moreno, who closed out the game to record his 12th save.

De Los Santos retired the first nine batters he faced and 15 of the first 16 before allowing his first hit – a sixth-inning leadoff double by Matt Antonelli, who eventually stole third and came in to score when Peter Ciofrone knocked a two-out single through the right side of the infield.

De Los Santos (3-5) suffered the hard-luck loss after giving up one run and two hits while striking out seven over six strong innings.

The Beavers loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh with a chance to extend their slim lead, but reliever Cedrick Bowers got a 4-2-3 double play before loading them back up with a walk to Antonelli. Bowers gave way to Josh Towers, who got pinch-hitter Colt Morton to pop up to short to end the threat.

Stansberry, however, added some insurance in the eighth by taking reliever Josh Towers deep to left-center.

Next up, the Beavers begin a four-game series at Memphis Tuesday night at 5:05 p.m. (Pacific).

NOTES: The Beavers drew 30,254 fans during the four-game series with the Sky Sox … Ciofrone is now just one game away from matching Terrmel Sledge’s 19-game effort in 2006 for the longest hitting streak since the Beavers returned to the PCL in 2001 … the Beavers are 30-16 in games decided by one or two runs.
