CORVALLIS, Ore. -- When Oregon State opens the season Aug. 28 at Stanford, they'll field a backfield that is the best in the Pac 10 - if not all of college football.

Brandon Hughes, a possible candidate for an award for the best defensive back in college football, anchors the defensive backfield.

Even with the loss of senior safety Brian Payton who left OSU July 1, Hughes believes this group can live up to the hype.
