PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland's new arena football team now has a name - the Portland Thunder.

The name was chosen from hundreds of fan entries. The team will begin play March 17 at the Moda Center when they take on the San Jose SaberCats.

"We appreciate all of the support we've received from our fan base and new season ticket holders," said Owner Terry W. Emmert. "We wanted to choose a powerful name that will define our team and the attitude of our franchise. We feel our fans can be proud of the name Portland Thunder."

Portlander Seth Johnson was the first fan to submit Portland Thunder and will receive a pair of season tickets to watch the team in action.

Branding elements, like a logo and team colors, will be coming out in the near future.
