Ducks WR Josh Huff found not guilty in DUI, speeding cases

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - University of Oregon football player Josh Huff has been acquitted of an intoxicated driving charge.
Prosecutors had accused the Ducks wide receiver of driving under the influence of marijuana last March.
The six-member Eugene Municipal Court jury deliberated for about 2 1/2 hours before returning its verdict Thursday.
Huff told The Register-Guard that he was relieved but also expected the verdict because, in his words, "I am innocent."
Earlier in the day, Huff testified that his wobbly performance during a videotaped field sobriety test was not due to marijuana. He said he has always had trouble with balance and was also affected by cold weather during the traffic stop.
Before reading the jury's verdict, Judge Don Diment found Huff not guilty of speeding moments before a Eugene police officer stopped his car on the night of his arrest.

Why are all these non-Duck fans worried about this? He was a senior this year and will never play in a Duck uniform again. Geez......get over it.
Â
@scoreboard you're not a fan of drunk driving but you worry about drunk drivers right?
@GNTLwarrior You've obviously missed my point. Non-Duck fans always scream kick the player off the team when something like this happens and I usually agree, if they are found guilty. In this case he wasn't and even if he was it wouldn't make a difference since he is a senior. As for driving under the influence, no I do not condone that at all.
@Lookupthefacts  @GNTLwarrior Dude! Chill! I made a mistake! Geez calm down. Just showing you where I got my info. Relax man.
@scoreboard  @GNTLwarrior He's played 2010, 2011, and 2012....... The next year of his stat line will be next year, 2013. Are we done here?
@scoreboard  @GNTLwarrior So he is currently a senior......... He will PLAY his SENIOR year at Oregon.
@Lookupthefacts  @GNTLwarrior According to what I looked up at the time of the post, Huff is a senior:Â

Â
However, when I looked at ESPN right after you posted your comments, it says he's a junior:

@scoreboard  @GNTLwarrior Josh Huff, is a junior, and will play next year.
That was a pretty flimsy excuse but not surprised he got off. I can't believe that excuse actually worked though. True, how can a top wide receiver have "balance" issues?
haters....must suck being one....4 bcs bowls.....3 conference championships....your life: boring....stick to watching the huskies or beavers tripping all over themselves.
You mean a group of six people in Lane County found a football player for UO not guilty? UNPOSSIBLE!
try "impossible"...that would be from like the 4th grade.
@SKVmutant Must be an OSU grad....
Is anyone surprised that a member of the U of Nike football team was found not guilty? Since he was accused of DUII for marijuana will the University require random drug tests on him to make sure he is not using while attending the school and participating in athletic events? I doubt it and even if he did fail they would do nothing about it, the win at any cost mentality has brought nothing but thugs and criminals to this team, not to mention the NCAA investigation and soon to come sanctions that our oh so wonderful Coach gets to skip by running to Philly. Is it any wonder i cant stand this team and its blind supporters.
@Jeremy Been a Duck fan since I was 9 years old and my grandpa, a season ticket holder for over 50 years, took me to a game or 2 a year. 21 years for the U of O. You can look at just about any team in college football that is successful, and say, "look at all the thugs and criminals the winning at all cost mentality has brought." Seriously? Look at the NFL and how many "thugs and criminals" are on the rosters! You're a fool.
@Jeremy Some people, like myself, have been fans of the Ducks since they were young (me since I was about 8 and I'm pushing 50 now). Blind supporters? Hardly. Most fans, again like myself, stick with their teams, good or bad.
DUII investigations are based on observation of driving. Field Sobriety Tests properly administered may have indicated evidence of impairment. Possible that additional evaluation revealed the cause of impairment? Arrest was effected, and the rest was up to the jury. The jury reached a conclusion based on a recitation of the facts. If this gentleman had not been a UO athlete, this story would never have attained the attention by the media that it has. Â
"He said he has always had trouble with balance and was also affected by cold weather during the traffic stop. "
Â
A Wide-Receiver on one of the best offensive teams in the nation has trouble with balance? What a crock.Â
have you seen him play? he can't keep his feet under him or he'd have about 12 TD's a year!
He tangles his own feet up on an easy catch and usually drops it and then makes a fantastic catch but tumbles to the ground like a two year old so yeah....I can see his point.....still, gotta love that jury.
@SKVmutant People don't tangle their feet and get 40 and 50 yard touchdown catches. I don't care too much about the rivalry personally, but still, lousy excuse. He probably knew he wouldn't get in trouble. He could have said anything and he would have been found innocent.

@Dr. Rawdog Or I am acknowledging the fact that he stated "balance problems" and temperature issues as two separate reasons, not one being the reason for the other.Â
@Dr. Rawdog  @Kraut He doesn't seem to have balance problems during cold weather football games.

@Dr. Rawdog Better to be clutzy than ditzy.  Or is it the other way around?  Dang Sundowner's.
It looked like over reaching by the police department after the 0.00 breathalyzer result. I won't say that driving while black is a problem in Eugene, but this IS the 2nd football player arrested in a couple of months...the other one had a 0.06 reading..three beers.
@hewhoo Well, if you read the story, the DUII was weed related, not alcohol, so of course he blew a 0.00 for alcohol. And his excuse of having "trouble with balance"...well...see Kraut's post above.
