Ducks suspend tackle cited for DUII
EUGENE, Ore. - The Ducks indefinitely suspended a senior defensive tackle who was cited for DUII "pending clarification of an incident that occurred Friday morning in Eugene," head football Coach Chip Kelly said in a press release.
Kelly did not describe the incident or how senior defensive tackle Isaac Remington was involved.
Eugene Police told KVAL News an officer cited Remington for driving under the influence of intoxicants after a traffic stop at 12:30 a.m. at 12th and Kincaid.
A police spokeswoman did not know what kind of intoxicant.
Remington was cited and released and wasn't booked into the Lane County Jail, police said.
Remington, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., is tied for third on the team in tackles for loss with four for minus 13 yards among his 12 tackles in six games, including four stops earlier this year against the University of Arizona.
What about Kiko Alonso? Didn't he get arrested like 84 times? Don't forget Rob Beard, who got dropped in an alleyway in a fight.
What's up with these fat white guys with long hair and beards? It's not a good look. I get it though. It's a 'football' thing. Plus wasn't there just a story about how much of a family man this guy was with a wife and kid?
He will fit right in on the team with a DUII, not like OSU team members with sheep.
@RandyH Or the ones that break into dorms and then go down in a naked three point stance.
He was suspended only because Kelly doesn't need him to win. Â If and when he does, he will be back on the team. Â Just look at Oregon and Kelly's past history. Â Ethics be damned, winning is everything.
@boomer Absolutely correct! Kelly doesn't care how the W gets in the column as long as it gets there.
@I812  @boomer You're so full of crap your eyes are brown.
What? Another duck charged with DUII?  Say it isn't so! This just can't be. Chip says he is building men with character. I am sooooo shocked. Time to give ol Willie a call.
@I812 Mike Riley isn't any better:

Â
He actually let this guy play in 5 games last year after this happened according to the OSU website:

@shek069 The article is not about an OSU player or the OSU coach. It is about an Oregon player and the actions of an Oregon coach. Why are you making some sort of lame attempt to justify anything or redirect the discussion? Not too bright.
@shek069 I disagree. Kelly's track record is a hodge podge of discipline and non-discipline. When it becomes a media circus his hand is forced. Kelly doesn't set a decent standard himself so he cannot expect the players to set one either. Just wait until the NCAA gets done with the Willie Lyles case.
Â
I am not opposed to a second chance. Young men make mistakes and they should be given an opportunity to correct those mistakes and change their behavior. The problem is Oregon's 4 strike policy. That is simply too lenient and does not send the correct message. Let's face it; the vast majority of these football players are developmentally arrested and wouldn't be anywhere near a university, much less enrolled, if it weren't for football. In fact, not a single non-athlete student would be allowed admission with the (non)academic credentials the vast majority of football players possess.
@I812  @shek069 Chip Kelly doesn't do that. His players screw up, he suspends them, gives them a set of guidelines and goals. If the player follows the guidelines and reaches the goals, he reinstates them. If they don't they are gone. In other words, he feels they should be punished but they also deserve a chance to redeem themselves. LaGarrette Blunt did just that and he was reinstated. Jeremiah Masoli & Cliff Harris, on the other hand, didn't and he was kicked off the team permanently and they were stars of their team. I think Chip does a great job handling situations like this.
Â
Why not give the kids second chances? We're all human and make mistakes so why shouldn't these kids be given the same luxury?Â
@shek069 College football teams do have their problems and the schools and the NCAA could stop 90% of them if they simply cracked down on those that can't behave themselves, despite the fact they get free college, free tutors, etc. It is big business, I get that but just because one is willing to win at any cost does not make one a winner.Â
@I812  @PD1202 I'm not trying to shift blame. I'm trying to show you that every team has it's problems. You're the one that started talking smack about Chip Kelly with your sarcastic comments. All I tried to do it point out the fact that he's not the only one with idiots on his team.Â
@PD1202 Why should you listen to the crap? Because that is what mature, intelligent adults do when one of their own screws up. Mature, intelligent adults accept responsibility and move on. Immature, irresponsible adults try to shift the blame or discussion onto something else. Now, go finish you short case of Keystone Light. Or is it Hamms?
@I812  @shek069 No, it's actually very bright Mr. 1812....Why should us Duck's just sit back and listen to the crap on here about Chip and his player's...when in fact that the Beavo's are just as bad or worse??
Idiot.
Well, I know what DUII means, but now I know what "Ducks" means also. It must refer to "Don't Unsettle Chip Kelly's System"?Â
Suspend indefinitely I hope doesn't mean until we need you to win a game for us - i.e., LaGarrette Blount.
@peckishpete At least Chip Kelly suspends his players. Mike Riley let's them play. Last year he let a guy play (I can't remember his name) who was arrested for domestic violence against his wife, all because he needed him to play, although it didn't matter because they lost to Sacramento State anyway.
@shek069 You want to provide some sort of reference for this statement or are you just trying to defend Chip Kelly's dubious discipline practices.
@shek069 @peckishpete he was suspended but injuries forced Riley to postpone the suspension but it magically never happened....
@quackmire  @peckishpete Thank you. I was just about to post the same thing. However, there are conflicting reports. According to this report, he was suspended but according to the OSU page you just posted, he played in the Sacramento State game.
Â
My point is to you pete, that if you live in glass houses you shouldn't throw stones. Stuff like this happens all over the NCAA.

Â
I'm glad to see he was suspended, but always sad to see a young man make a dumb choice.
With all the negative attention on Ducks and their party habits... whatever. Obviously sports educated doesn't amount to much.... How do you spell cat? Kat How do you spell dog? Dawg...
"Remington was cited and released and wasn't booked into the Lane County Jail, police said."
Â
??? What the....? Oregon law states a minimum of 2-days jail time...what gives?
Â
Â
"...is tied for third on the team in tackles for loss with four for minus 13 yards among his 12 tackles in six games, including four stops earlier this year against the University of Arizona."
Â
Oh...well now that explains it, he's a key part of the Duck's defense.Â
@str1ngb3nd3r Uh....It's the discretion of the arresting officer to lodge or not.  That's Oregon law.

@Portlander29  @str1ngb3nd3r Please refer to the bottom of the comments page, where it says "Keep it clean, keep it civil, keep it truthful, stay on topic, be responsible." There is no need to make it personal.Â
I am sure by the time the season is over, every player will be suspended for everything from Lawn jobs to smoking pot. Got to love the liberal way of thinking in Eugene.....
@Civ C'mon Civ....you're smarter than that.  Quit picking on Eugene.....I believe there has been plenty of these situations and more down the road in Corvallis....
@PD1202 @Civ Possibly even in Fossil, but not in Shaniko, I betcha!
