HS Blitz Week 9: Playoff time!

HS Blitz Week 9: Playoff time!

Each week during high school football season KATU sports photographer Mike "Rossy" Rosborough previews the upcoming action on High School Blitz, which airs Friday nights at 11:35 p.m. Here's Rossy's look ahead at week 9:

Welcome to November, playoff time for football. No, I meant playoff time for most of football.  Since the 6A adopted the play-in system to give all schools a postseason “ taste”, this week is an exercise in piling on, as in piling on teams that underperformed all fall. The weakest teams go on the road to play games that they are overmatched for…. For example, your team has no wins, whether because of injuries or other misfortunes, and you ride the bus for a few hours to get beat by 30 points, a game you had no chance in, and get that same bus ride home…. Not exactly the best memories to build on for future participation.  Hopefully the next OSAA re-organization cleans this up….OK, off the soapbox…

Our Game of the Week sends Hillsboro (0-9) a short ways to Westview (2-7) for a play-in matchup that should suit the Wildcats well. Playing in the Metro is great preparation for postseason as every week is a test… Westview’s QB Julius Rucker has grown into his job this season and should lead his squad to ample scores to rout Hilhi in what is clearly a down year for them…check in with Captain Nate Bynum and his crew as we go live with the winners on the fastest half hour in TV.. The Blitz!!

Most of the 6A games are on our schedule this week….South Eugene (0-9) at Beaverton (5-4)… North Medford (2-7) at Clackamas (4-5)… Barlow (2-7) at Glencoe (5-4)… McKay (2-7) at West Linn (3-6)… Lincoln (2-7) at Lakeridge (2-7)…Grants Pass (3-6) at McNary (3-6)… the records speak for themselves if you think home teams have the edge here, they do, but all winner will be road teams the rest of the way.. tough duty, but they play the games and kids can overcome amazing things… that’s why we send our sideline lensmen out there, to see it and bring it back for your viewing pleasure…

Thanks to 5A and SW Washington for some real playoff games..  our spotlight is on the Churchill (6-3) versus Milwaukie (7-2) match… the Lancers have their hands full with the Mustangs prolific scoring machine, especially at home, with the maturation of Richard Ramsey and some key PIL transfers…I like them to move on…Eagle Point (5-4) plays at Crescent Valley (6-3) in another good 5A match for your viewing… and last but not least is a top matchup in Camas as the Papermakers(9-0) host South Kitsap (6-3) at Doc Harris stadium. Now that’s a playoff game as Camas’ steamrolling offense looks to be a straight path to the Tacoma Dome in December…

There you have it, and we will have the cream of all these games for you to enjoy on the Blitz! At 11;30 after the news… join us for the fastest thirty minutes on television… we’re having fun and want you to do the same…..happy Playoff season!!
