Hillsboro Hops' new baseball stadium is taking shape

HILLSBORO, Ore. - In a few months, we'll start hearing 'Play Ball!' once again in our area.
Minor league baseball is coming to Hillsboro this summer at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex at 4450 N.W. 229th Avenue (just off Highway 26) and crews are busy getting everything ready to go.
The Hillsboro Hops, a Single-A baseball affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, will begin their season in June and play through early September. The new stadium will open to the public on June 17.
The Hops are part of the Northwest League, which includes teams in Boise, Eugene, Salem-Keizer, Tri-Cities, Spokane, Everett and Vancouver B.C.
Major league players who got their start in the Northwest League include Ken Griffey Jr., Felix Hernandez, Edgar Martinez, Reggie Jackson, Ozzie Smith, Rickey Henderson and Tony Gwynn.
How the Team Got Its Name
"The name ‘Hops’ recognizes Hillsboro’s proud agricultural heritage and the fact that Oregon is the second largest hop producing state in the United States," K.L. Wombacher, General Manager of the Hillsboro Hops, said in October when the name was announced. "Hops is also a term used regularly in baseball –- short hop, bad hop, crow hop. We feel 'Hops' encompasses several different components we wanted to include in our team name."
The Hillsboro Hops logo includes an animated hop plant donning a baseball cap with the letter 'H.' The primary team colors will be navy blue, light blue and green.
On Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, members of the media were invited for a tour of the construction work happening at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex in Hillsboro. The complex will be the home of the Hillsboro Hops baseball team, which will start its season in June. Photo Tweeted by K.L. Wombacher, Vice President and General Manager of the Hillsboro Hops.
It should really be the Hillsboro Hombres.
Worst name ever.
big deal! we had AAA baseball right here  in portland for over 100 years!  now because of idiot merrit paulson and little boy lover sam adams we only have the timbers flopping on the ground in their purty boys shorts! what a discrace to the city of portland!
Hillsboro Hops....it is o.k. i guess, but why not go all the way to the final product. It would be cooler to have the name "Ale Drinkers", "Brewmasters".........something like that!!!!
Well, if they're not going to spend it on law enforcement to control all the illegal immigrants, they might as well build a stadium.
Amazing accomplishment for Hillsboro, we are jealous here in southern oregon, we can barely keep a wood bat team and the former youth baseball capital of the United States is about washed up.
Does that mean if Pansies were Hillsboro's main crop they would call them the Pansies?
Is katu going to back this team as much as kptv with the timbers - I think of timbers as fallen trees -
@Bert Hey, Bert -- be nice about the Timbers, cuz you KNOW how interesting all those Timbers/Thorns stories are.
the timbers are as interesting as watching the grass grow!  107 years of americas past time gone, for foreign soccer! discusting!
Should they ever get a hit, I would like to see them hop, skip and jump around the bases! LOL
@jpk So does that mean they'll also have the Bunny Hop and the Lindy Hop for entertainment?
Who knows what the mascot will be as well? Can't imagine a vine for a mascot.Â
"The name âHopsâ recognizes Hillsboroâs proud agricultural heritage and the fact that Oregon is the second largest hop producing state in the United States..."Â and also that every night is BEER Night at the stadium!
@HenryBowman One can only hope! But in Hillsboro, shouldn't it be Cerveza night?
