Report: Jason Bay reaches deal with Mariners

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press that free agent outfielder Jason Bay has reached a one-year contract with the Seattle Mariners.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity Wednesday because there was no announcement by the team.
The 34-year-old Bay is hoping to resurrect his career with the Mariners after three disappointing and injury-plagued seasons with the New York Mets.
Last month, Bay and the Mets agreed to terminate his contract with one guaranteed year remaining on his $66 million, four-year contract. The agreement let the Mets spread out the $21 million they still owed him.
Bay hit .165 with eight home runs and 20 RBIs last season. He was slowed by concussions and rib injuries while with the Mets and played only 288 games in three years with them.
Bay is familiar with the Pacific Northwest. He grew up in British Columbia and went to Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash.
Win....win for Bay. Lose.....lose for the Mariners as usual. Keep it up Mariners, don't spend any money, don't build to be a winner and the team will soon be playing in an empty stadium. Because major league baseball supports teams with losing revenue you will still have a team, one that continues to limp along year after year building teams with players that don't want to be in Seattle. Safeco field is still a draw to fans but the luster is fading and without popular players to draw crowds, season ticket holders are going to spend their hard earned money some where else. You can blame the GM for the problems but he is just spending  money supplied by the owners to obtain players and he isn't getting much to work with. Seattle deserves more.
His last good year was 5 years ago in Boston Mets offered more and he went after his deal with Boston. Canadian maybe he could hook up with Seattle hockey team.
Why?
Chone Figgins is excited to not be the worst hitter in Seattle anymore.
Can't hit, barely able to play his position, little power remaining, and probably way overpayed. He should fit in perfectly with the rest of the team.
